I dunno mate either and yes it would have been in the 90's but I was surprised with him showing up in the bar in Shilshole. He wasn't there for shit's & giggles. Never thought him as a cruiser either. It's better to be forgotten I guess but the PHRF nonsense was fairly recent; two years maybe. I get the "he's a good sailor and a nice old guy". Then I give them the real story and I'm not certain I get believed. Doesn't matter as all of it is documented somewhere.

Shit guys!.... what a classic reasom to have fun with this turkey...
I say "play him at his own game" and have fun with some "kick ass" mind games...
Rule 1. Promote the turd to the commitee and bog him down with paperwork. Or promote him beyound his level of competency!
Rule 2. Or... promote him to "top dog" and let him fuck it all up!.... then blame him (at all levels,in the local press then when he runs of "crying like a baby" go back to old system)
Rule 3. Fuck with his head by "blowing smoke up his arse" by telling him how great he is.... all the time.
Rule 4. Since he is always last. At the start, let him start alone on time and everyone else all agree to start one minute later...then as you sail past said "A hole" yell out...' "great start! Going well"
Rule 5. On the course keep well clear of said "A hole" or have fun and make it a rule if you have to pass him then it must be a complete loop around him (360 penalty) before carying on.
Rule 6. At the club engage with said "A hole" and tell him...
'Great sailing"
'Looking good out there"
'Awesome start"
Just keep laying on the compliments!
Do not lower yourself to bad behaviour but use his stupidity as a challenge to overcome, while keeping your dignity.
Let him have all the bad Karma!
Eventually he will feel very lonely as his crew leave him and he realises he is a big Jerk.
If he engages with you always be friendly and engage with him eye to eye and smile.
You can either lower your standards or use this guy to be a better person/sailor, while having some good old clean fun.
He will soon leave! Or change his ways.
