Our next door neighbors, who stayed, just told us our roof appears to be fine (they have a 2-story and can see pretty much of all our roof). Only damage mentioned is the screens on the pool cage are gone. But their roof is in bad shape.

I know I'll get an earful about this stupidity but I've been sick as a dog... Anyway, we didn't take the sails down. And our neighbor said the boat is fine.

To me, that sounds miraculous.
Hope it's as good as it sounds Jules - but if it's that good, you better not waste any money on future lottery tickets - you used up all your luck.

There is YouTube video from a storm chaser of Cantore standing in a intersection with horizontal wind and rain getting taken out by a tree limb sliding down the street ☠️ He managed to get to the corner and hung on to a pole head down into the wind
We need those examples of what not to do 😇

I will celebrate the day one of those Weather Channel goofs gets a plywood sheet upside the head. No reason to act in a Panic Porno; we know what wind and water misbehaving look like.

I'm giving some credit to the house holding up to two things, the McMansions surrounding us and the quality of building in 1964. But how the hell the boat held up, with sails on, is beyond me.

I volunteer for two non-profits, one protecting historical buildings the other wildlife. We had a lot going on before this hit. It will be interesting to see if any future plans will be changing.

The Weather Channel is all about making a buck. Anything to keep people glued to the screen. As Ian was just making landfall, their chief hurricane guy, a former NHC Director, said Sarasota could get 18 feet of storm surge. So somehow Ian was going to dump water into Sarasota while the wind is blowing out to sea.

And let's not forget the TWC guys in a boat on what was a street only to be busted when a guy walking in the background shows the water is only ankle deep. Storm chasers are far more credible.

Coming soon to BringATrailer.

I hope it was just a clone, and nobody left a real one out in the hurricane

So glad to hear that!

The wing is holding the trunk high of the roof. Looks appropriate to me. Like others, hope it was a reproduction, not original.
No plate on it either, probably just a lightweight replica.

But the damage is going to run into MANY $BILLIONS! Some reports say that the power system in some areas will not be able to be repaired and will need months-long rebuilds instead. Yikes.

Glad to hear it. It's sometimes hard to figure why some things fly and others don't. My rain gauge stayed on a partially rotted piece of wood but the biggest tree in my yard broke at the base.

a few decades ago, i was watching one of those WC geeks out in the storm... they mentioned his name and I told my wife that i knew a guy who lived down the street and was our paper boy with that name... so i did some research and got a hold of that guy at WC and yup, it was our paperboy.. he's long since left WC, but he said he hated standing out in those storms..
