I built a boat. Now I need to make rigging

I was really grumpy when dad banned me.

I was wandering round the garden looking for something to throw, when I found these bits of wood one of my older brothers and mums boyfriend had been playing with.

They had lots of wood.

I didnt think they would miss a few bits, so I went and found Big Idea...

I used the paper shapes to mark out the big bits befoe dad knew we were out.

I think the noise woke him up and he came out as I started on these bits.

Big did some too.

There was some resin that they hadnt used, so we borrowed it.

Its blue, wherre the stuff we used to use was pink. Hope it still works the same.

Mixing in microfibres..

Im painting the joint with resin, so the wood doesnt steal the stuff out of the microfibres..

Im painting the edges while Big does the next joint..

Im soaking it so the microfibres will stay on.

Hes filleting it as this makes it a stronger joint.

Im doing this one, while he resins the sides..

I want it squeezed together while it sets, so Im putting screws in it.

Ive put some bits of wood under it as the screws are really long.

It went off before I finished.

Need to clean this out so I can make some more.

Hurrying now as we dont have much time after school before it gets dark..

Im using blocks to keep the bits apart while they dry as there isnt enough space to spread them out.

I think dad must have been looking at our bits while we were at school.

I would have used cable ties..

He is taping the edges with duck tape.

Dad went to sleep again, so we microfibred and taped while he snored.

This seems a lot easier than when I built my boat.

Its set! Only took a few hours.

If I use both hands to pick up the boat, I havent one free to pull off the tape.

Dad says use your teeth.

I think hes trying to get me to drop it on my head

I think Big Ideas tape moved.

Dad says dont worry about it. It will polish out.

I found some packs of battons behind the settee..

We cut some of them up into bits..

Got to be really careful with this thing as it can take off fingers.

I let my brother use it

Big is pulling the screws out of the rest of our bits..

I resined it and microfibred the holes, then dad put the tape on so it would be straight, the Big is wetting it out.

I got dad to help me tape mine, as I didnt want those bits to er...polish.

The plans say you should join it with duck tape.

Just finishing taping this one..

Its filleted and taped. Now it needs to dry.

I microfibred the join up the side too.

Went out on our bikes and got dad to shout when we left him puffing behind

He was even slower after lunch!

The resin still hadnt quite set, so we looked at our leaking top..

I get to jump on it when its in!

Dad said he was going to make an envirosail out of this.

We thought it sounded bad.

We have borrowed it before he can make himself look silly.

I need to get taller!

Big is tying up the wood so dad wond run it over.

Its supposed to rain tonight.

Now our new resin wont get wet.

I dont like having to carry them out in the morning.

Going to tape this one today.

I suppose dad thinks this one will need a bit of polishing too.

I am going to get him to polish it with that angle grinder Im not allowed to use.

Big is tidying up the bottom of this one,

Im sanding this a bit as it stuck a splinter in my hand.

He is getting ready to put the rubrail on.

We are hurrying in case it starts to rain. Dad said it wouldnt, but...Hes usually wrong.

Working out how to do a scruff joint..

Hes wetted it, so Im microfibring the holes..

He is doing the edge for its rubrail and smoothing out my microfibres..

Im mixing more resin.

This is a lot faster with two of us doing it than it was when I was doing my dinghy on my own.

Dad says he will cut the scruff joints as he wants us to keep all our fingers.

I think he is just grumpy because we havent needed any help

Hes drawing a line on it to cut along.

Big is taking out all the screws.

Im putting lines on where the blocks need to go on.

Now Im marking all of them in one go
