Deep roots and flexible above ground.

Those look like pine trees, which are the opposite of "deep roots and flexible above the ground." They often twist and the trunk snaps anywhere from 1/4 to 25/27ths of the way up.

Now gum trees and birch tree, those are some flexy mofos.

We have sweet guns and a very few oaks mixed in.  The biggest protection is the a very large wind break jsut to the north of our home (The man who built that home hated neighbors) and the west which is higher and covered with trees.  

To backup your thoughts, and Black Sox, When we drove eastward on Interstate 10 though the devastation of Michael, there was huge acreages of pine that were broken off about fifteen feet off of the ground.  Just as if a giant lawnmower came along and mowed the tops off of the pines

If someone is going to stylize sailing in a painting or drawing, is it too much to ask that they do a bare minimum of research so it doesn't look ridiculous? This is from US SAILING, for chrisakes! The main is weird enough but WTF is up with that headsail? Tell us about this hot new panel layout! Nice luff tension, bro! Mainsheet eased but headsail strapped in. Does anybody look at these things before giving the go-ahead for publishing?

I saw that movie!  "The Wild, Wild West".  It wasn't very good, but it was a fundraiser for a couple of local kids to go to the Tasar Worlds, and they won!

The two front sails are placed so close together so that some Hypersonic edge streams can develop inbetween.

And on the other side we can see some new interesting sheeting.



Using the foresheet straight as a shroud is genius. If a gust comes you will have almost instant more rig pressure.

Truely a scale model of a next gen racer.

Just remembered to this. Was a present from some non sailors for me. Has some interesting concepts.

Ugh! Sailing gifts from non-sailors are pretty much universally horrible.

I remember a model Arabic dhow where the hull was shaped from a solid block of wood using a band-saw. The chines which resulted from the sawing were slightly rounded by sanding. The portholes were made from shoelace eyelets. Ugh!
