Indeed a great result. Victorians have now past Queenslanders as the dumbest cunts in the country, and Meli gets both what she wanted and what she deserves. 3 more years of the worst leader globally during the covid pandemic. He not only locked his captives down longer than any other state in Australia he also killed more of his constituents.
3 more years of that cunt is just what meli needs. Apart from a good fucking but who is going to take that bullet? Random? Ease? Mid? Come on lads step up and take one for Victoria!
It just proves that you, a RWNJ, got it wrong. You believed the bullshit that more intelligent people rejected.

Of all the intentions of the new government, recreating the SEC is the most important.

But tell me Meli ... do changes to the Constitution require a vote?

Yeah. Dan was stretching a bit list night. But with our hatred of the power companies and the size of the millennials vote and the power of the Greens It shouldn't be hard. Victorians of my age are hearkening back to the pre privatisation days.

And Jeff Kennet can look on and hopefully reflect on what a cunt he is.
And if Bracksy hadn't resigned ?

Liberals big losses were in places like Box hill, Burwood, . Huge 2 and 3rd generation young educated Asian Australian population. Can the Liberal party ever change enough to concede that even small business are now owned by Millennials, that Climate change is a real and top concern?

They'll never learn to read the electorate with their heads firmly up their arses.
Their whole campaign was negative, anti Dan toxicity. Victorians in general are not vindictive angry haters.
Their policies like ditching the Suburban rail loop were completely bone headed.
Can you imagine how much people will save on fuel and time off their commute if there's a decent train service ringing Melbourne?

And Privatising Sewerage? We all know how Privatisation of energy, water and PT went. No improvement in service and huge increases in our bills

Projection from Antony Green.
Seats: Lab 55, Greens 6, Ind 2, Nats 4 and Liberal ?? 14.
Liberals in Vic are dead.
Yep
I admit, I got this wrong. I didn't realise how popular Mr Andrews would prove to be. I did expect more of a swing away. (I suspect that the Green's growth is driven by educated folks on the left not wanting to vote for Dan)

I also agree that the Liberals didn't manage to put forward a credible alternative proposition. Surprised more wasn't made about the ongoing cuts across the public service - exec level roles being cut from ~1500 to ~600. Driven by lack of money to pay the bills.

I'm in two minds about the SEC. When it was privatised, it was probably the right call, and it did result in less overall cost. But over the next ~20 years there will be a challenge to restructure to enable importation of power from many small producers (ie home solar with batteries). So the power infrastructure does probably need a ground up redesign to cope, and private enterprise isn't the way to fund that.

Large scale shared public infrastructure - poles and holes - is a good case for government ownership.

Unfortunately we have to imagine how many, because there has not been any credible research published to show the benefits, and how many man hours will be saved.

It seems intuitively like it might be a good idea, but as someone who lives near one end of the proposed line, I don't know many use cases for it.

None of us will ever see it anyway. Maybe my kids will want to catch the train to Broadmeadows one day?

At the moment, If I lived in Cheltenham and worked in Bayswater, It's almost a two hour train trip.

To drive in peak hour? well my husband used to do Brighton to Bayswater when he worked at Semmens. 70 minuits each way and around 70km return. Wrecked the manual transmission on the Prelude.

I don't think that Libs really appreciate the cost and commute times of working people.

Yeah. If you lived in Cheltenham. Which you don't. Do you know anyone that does?
How many people do you think this applies to?

That's the point. We are building a train line that won't be useable for 15 years for hypothetical people and work patterns that have not been well studied.

BTW - I live one suburb away from Cheltenham. I can be in Bayswater quicker than I can be in Collins St, where I used to work.

I used to live in Cheltenham years ago grew up in Cheltenham and my In laws lived there for 50 years. My Parents lived there until about 1990. I went to Chelt High school but most of my old school mates have moved ether closer or further from the city. A number live in those outer eastern suburbs. Even then, If I wanted to go to Belgrave it took ages by train.

I think part of the projects point, is not only to reduce road traffic and carbon emissions, but to develop those outer hubs into major commercial mini cities rather than the mostly industrial suburbs they are now. Bringing more work that is closer to home.
Wiki does a good summary of the pros, con, and costs.
The popularity of the project was one factor in the "Danslide" in 2018. especially in those SE suburbs. So why would the Libs think that canning the project would win those seats back?
Bone headed and out of touch with middle class voters of Asian heritage?
A good Government needs a good opposition. If you don't want to see Labor gov in Victoria with growing Green support, then burn the current Liberal party down and rebuild a party relevant to 2030.

Even more wrong.

Greens and professional, (professional as in their other jobs, dr's, small business owners, etc) independents are liberal voters who won't vote Labor.

The crazy independents attract the uneducated, unskilled laborer who don't understand that the are fucken bogans and think a new house in Melton or Werribee makes them middle class.

As for privatisation, we went from 1 organisation doing everything to fucking many doing the same thing. Ever heard of economies of scale? Not to mention the redirection of profits...

Then there's the apprentice factories that the state owned organisations were...

As for cutting the public service management, who doesn't like that?

The restaurants and cafes etc in st Kilda will be happy with a few more customers from Broadmeadows.

And good riddance
"As soon as it is clearer which Liberal Party candidates will form the next parliamentary party room, I will call them together to elect their new leadership team," he said.

"I will not be a candidate for the position of leader."

I wasn't going to post this in the corona thread. In fact I wasn't going to post it at all.
But why should people like LB and DK be able to lie when they were part of the conversation?
And why should I allow SB to hie behind their lies.

”Nobody does any long term planning anymore”

Fuck you scum. If you we here right now I’d drag you outside and beat you to an inch of your life. Take a big deep breath and think before you open your mouth.

I don't care what you said Meli, that response from Shaggy is off the chart and unacceptable, anytime, anywhere. Not sure I would want to have too many rums with someone who would post that.

There is no excuse for it.
