Ther are about 48k unemployed and if we assume all get the dole (I know it's wrong) and they all spend their extra $80pw on dope, then the Government will be financing $200m of the annual dope purchases. Perhaps best to put that money into an account that only allows legal purchases

Yeah because that has worked SO WELL for the Aboriginal community, right?

I actually liked the idea of the basics card where you couldn't buy anything WRT gambling, tobacco & alcohol on it. Should be universal IMO. If you want to spend money on shit like that, get a fucking job and pay for it yourself.

And yeah - black market & crooked sales people putting through booze & smokes using different scan codes, sure, always going to happen. But it's be risky & expensive if you threatened to ban sellers from the system totally if they allowed such abuse.

Right now I'm hoping Perottet sticks to his guns and bores it up the clubs etc with the electronic gambling card. That's going to fuck over the industry and money laundering big-time. They'll find other ways, sure, but it'll increase the cost of doing business.

The kids know that the only way to gamble is if you are the house. (Or David Walshe)

I taught my kids about gambling early on - cheated outrageously so they always lost. None of them will have a bar of the entire concept.

Gambling IS a tax on stupid people, true. But that doesn't mean we should encourage it. Personally I'd treat it as we do tobacco. Tolerated because it's ineradicable but heavily discouraged and all advertising in cash, kind, product placement etc etc totally banned.

$28 Billion?
That's over 10 years, so $2.8 Billion a year.
That's over $100 per person, per year.
Let's assume that its 25% tax. Then every single person would have to be spending $400 a year on dope. That's on top of the 6 plants everyone is allowed.

Good thing they are going to put the dole up, cause SFA work is going to be done if that's the case.
I don't think basic math is a strong ability of most Green voters, let alone their parliamentarians!!

^This. Agree 150%. Cannot believe the amount of advertising $spend during televised sporting events and advertising around ground of said sporting event. It's a scourge on society, especially young men, and should be banned.

ROBO DEPT.

I haven't been paying much attention.
Just thought it was about a badly implimented automatic centrelink dept recovery thing that hurt a lot of people. Liberals- who'd have thunk.

But this just caught my eye.

Fuck how close were to devolving into a Kafkaesque Dystopia under that mob?

Personal details released to media

Ms Miller said the government released personal information of Robodebt "case studies" to the media to deter more people from speaking out.

"The minister requested the file of every single person who appeared in the media … you could see the exact transactions that they'd had with Centrelink.

"This would send a clear message … that maybe consider it [going to the media] twice.

"There were less people speaking out in the media which was our intention."

WTF! Under the proposed legislation it will only cost $400 a year to be a pot head? I am going to save a fortune! Fuck-count me in. I always had a soft spot for those greeny cunts.

No no no...
It's $400 on average. Sounds like you are covering the consumption of your parents, kids, and cousins out to the third degree. Remember you also get to cultivate 6 plants each for your parents, kids, etc as well. Hell, you can chip in the $400 for me as well if you want.

But I am impressed that you actually intend on paying the tax. I think that if I was a commited dopehead, I'd be able to continue to find a supply that is off the books.

It's
I doubt random or anyone thinks its OK to drive after a toke. "Under the influence" or "driving stoned" = totally not OK.

The fact you can get done days and days after said toke... "the presence of..." that's the fucked bit.

I think till they work out a way to accurately define and measure impairment, it's a good way to disrupt the trade, a tiny bit.

I wonder how the deal with this in the US?
It's a long time since I last had a toke. I do remember laughing myself silly, I don't remember ever being impaired. A knock on the door would have us all sitting up absolutely straight in about 3 seconds flat.

How do they actually test for impairment when stoned anyway?

(Persons making accusations about drinking or being stoned while driving are accusing people of criminal activity. Not OK even on here.)

I think to the committed pot head the convenience of just heading down to the shop to score, even if it costs more and the ‘Gubenment’ control it, outweighs the normal hassle of dealing with stoners or sleazy cunts. Mind you the drive to Nimbin to score of the smelly hippies is always a nice day out...

First live band I ever saw
6 out of 10 tracks banned.
Mum never listened to what we were playing and wouldn't have understood "smut" anyway :D

I watched it all through Countdown. I liked Shirl, he was a surfer, he died not so far from here.

But in hindsight, never liked a single track. They were just entertaining for a while.

I get it that if they were the first band you saw, things would be different.

Around about the same time we had Jeff St John.

I return to this one anytime I'm feeling hard done by.

Like comparing apples to roller skates :D
I was only about 15 when I saw Skyhooks

(and Jeff St John was late 60's , before my time in Australia)

Skyhooks were about Shirl and his Shane Warne like appeal to the larrikin masses and the girls.

The camp stuff was more than a little baffling to me, but then there was a bit of it around. Considering how homophobic the place was, I don't know how it worked at all.
