Skyhooks were about Shirl and his Shane Warne like appeal to the larrikin masses and the girls.

The camp stuff was more than a little baffling to me, but then there was a bit of it around. Considering how homophobic the place was, I don't know how it worked at all.
I met him many times. He did a few Hobart races on his own boat and a few of us rented a house he owned on the Gold coast and he used to score off us when he was in town. He died in one of Grant Kenny's helocopters the day before 911. He was a great bloke who did not care for, or give a fuck about, being famous.

Employer asks why he should pay for 'poor partner choices' as paid DV leave la

ws come into effect

A Queensland-based law firm director has defended comments he made about the impact of new domestic violence leave laws on small business owners.
Lawyer Guy Sara took to LinkedIn to criticise the law, which came into effect on Wednesday for medium to large businesses, and will apply to small businesses with fewer than 15 staff from August 1.

On social media, Mr Sara called the move a "load of sh**".

And he is absolutely correct. Why does it fall to someones employer to pick up the pieces of an employees poor choices outside of the work place?

"Shit, I need an extra paid holiday. Bruce, come here and punch me, NOT IN THE FACE!, I'm off to stay at Shirl's for a week's partying. And we can do it once every 12 months! Fucking beauty!"

A good idea in need of some fine-tuning.

I would think that the number of people abusing this would be few.

However, one brake suggests itself. Nomination of the agressor/abuser via AVO filed and claim for financial dmaages added to the aggressor's tax bill or Centrelink account, whatever. Take it out of their dole money.

Don't want to file for an AVO? You're not serious about dealing with the problem.

Nope, Skyhooks were taking the piss of the Toorak, Balwin, Carlton leafy Melbourne suburbs and their penchant for slumming. Laughing at the establishment and laughing at the latte left. listen to the lyrics. The Glam thing was just entertainment.

Whatever happened to the revolution? they all got stoned and drifted away!
Bought his first dope at the south Yarra Arms, Whole matchbox full in his hot little palms (Toorak Cowboy) The South Yarra Arms was a notorious "safe " spot for the elite around the south side of the Yarra to buy "party quantities" of (poor quality) dope

Balwyn calling (Balwyn was a bit of an "In Joke" another of Keating's "leafy suburbs"

Skyhooks were a very Melbourne band :O

For once I agree with you, needs some fine tuning unless there's some qualifiers that the press forgot to mention.
I remember back in the late 70's, on of the women I worked with continually turned up at work with a black eye or other bruising.
The boss got the sympathetic male kitchen staff to get a van, find her a secret, safe house, move her in and gave her a week off to get sorted.
Of course the husband called her at work and she agreed to meet him to talk.
He followed her home and made her come "home"

(The kitchen staff paid him a visit later and things improved for a short while until he made her quit, I hope she escaped eventually)

.....And then make it easy and quick for the employer providing the paid leave to claim it back off the Gov. (This would be for small/medium size employers. The likes of Woolies/Coles, banks etc can fucking wear it.)
No AVO, no paid DV leave.

Yes.

Taking actions such as obtaining a DVO can make matters worse, much worse.
Attempting to simplify the situation down to either obtain a DVO or fuck off shows total ignorance of what can be a very complex situation.

Whats next , no sick leave if you don’t where a germ proof respirator 24/7.

A quick google produces…….

When it is a viable option, it is best for victims to do what they can to escape their abusers. However, this is not the case in all situations. Abusers repeatedly go to extremes to prevent the victim from leaving. In fact, leaving an abuser is the most dangerous time for a victim of domestic violence. One study found in interviews with men who have killed their wives that either threats of separation by their partner or actual separations were most often the precipitating events that lead to the murder.

Migrants failing to assimilate, 200-year-study finds

australia-flag.jpg

Migrants to Australia have displayed an inability to assimilate with local values and refuse to speak anything but their native tongue, a study covering the last 200 years has found.

The study confirms a popularly-held belief in parts of the country that migrants simply refuse to fit in.

Boat people from as far back as 1788 didn’t bother applying for passports or visas, were set on introducing their own laws, and, in many cases concealed criminal records, according to the damning report.

Chief researcher Marianne Williams said migrants have stubbornly refused to adapt to the local culture. “They haven’t made an effort to fit in, and in a lot of cases they’ve tried to impose their own laws onto those already here”.

One migrant, a chook thief in his native England, immigrated to Australia in 1803 and despite his past career and skill set, was reduced to working as a local politician to make ends meet.

Women have very limited options WRT violent partners/family members. Fucking right off with no forwarding address AND a DVO is probably the best they can do given it's illegal (with exceptions) to kill the abusers.

Without a DVO the cops are basically handicapped. I don't think that a DVO is unreasonable; if the situation is bad enough to take paid time off of work it's bad enough to kick the legal process into gear IMO.

Yes I agree that taking one out has big risks, hence the fuck off right smart bit and I think we should do more, a LOT more to make this much simpler than it is now. Stalking a person who's gone into protective hiding should be a serious criminal offence and aiding it - as far too many police have done for their mates - should also be a serious offence with loss of employment at minimum. One of my extended family found this out, in the end she had to move a LONG way away to the mainland and go to great lengths to hide her information. Her ex was associated with the cops and his mates would get her new address etc from the registration/drivers licence database.

And Govt reimbursement - PROMPT reimbursement - would go a long way to make the whole process a lot more acceptable to small businesses.

Talking about failure to assimilate.

Here is a classic. This track advertises that where ever Australians go, they will not assimilate!

I mean, imagine, just image if the Africans in Melbourne came out and said they "Still call Africa Home." Bogans would lose their shit!

I'm glad someone here actually seems to know what they are talking about.

though there's nothing very complex about.
How dare you!, BITCH!!
It's also quite hard to take a DVO out if the violence isn't physical.
The Perp has to front up in the court to give his side of a story, this in itself can be traumatic because it often comes down to a "he did/. he didn't situation.
So someone can deny housekeeping money, deliberately run up bills, trash the house, order the kids expensive things then not pay for them on delivery, steal the Sim out of your mobile phone etc etc etc.
There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but very few ways to make him leave.
Strangely, people are not allowed to get DVO's just because they want someone out of the house.

So a abused woman should either disappear or just cop it because going to the police is dangerous? If anyone was in any doubt that you are a fuckwit (I am sure no one was) then that has been erased.

The Perth Shark attack.

Why is it that the species of shark that did it is important? I don't get it. The girl is dead. What are they going to do? Ban the species?

Every fucking time the press asks the question.

I recall when I started surfing, every shark attack was by a "Six foot grey nurse." That was when Ben Cropp was killing them to make him famous. Then there was a collective embarrassment when it was discovered that Grey Nurse sharks do not attack people. OOOooops.

Now Bull Sharks are blamed. Same same old shit, as if the name somehow matters.
