Last time I was in Qld, (March 2022) I went for a walk along the beach at Mermaid beach and Miami.
The waves were crested in brown foam and parts of the beach were ankle deep in it.
Not terribly enticing, though I assumed it was storm water related.
My BIL lives in Brisbane, Hawthorne.
He's Melbourne borne but as lived in Brisy for 40 years. (bought his first house, a stilted "queenslander" back in the late eighties. He's in mining, liked his beer, married a 20 something Chilean "babe" when in his mid 40's and never been to "culture" but loves his footy and extreme sports. Generous to a fault but more than a tad ostentatious with it.
Question. Is he a Queenslander now?

In UK the trash people feel threatened by the numbers of Eastern Europeans there, whilst the Brisbane trash feel threatened by anyone who isn’t from Queensland.

My wife is Asian and has never had a negative experience in Darwin.

I'll grant you Southbank isn't bad but come on - it's an ARTIFICIAL beach. And small at that. As for Wynnum - that's like having a beach next to Mount Druitt in Sydney. Even if there was one, it's still not a desirable place to go.

If that's the best you've got close to the CBD - you have my sympathy.

Locally I didn't mention Sandy Bay, lower Sandy Bay and Kingston, or the Neck Beach on Bruny. Because they're a bit further away, but Sandy Bay is probably as close as Southbank or at least little further.

Pity about the water temperature but you can't have everything.

Melbourne still sucks though WRT decent beaches.
