I only anchor out or pick up moorings. I don’t go cruising to go ashore. Just not what I like to do.

Yeah I'm like that too.
Unfortunately (for me) my GF likes to get some exercise and wants to go ashore for walks, beachcombing, exploring etc etc.
I like a peaceful life (and getting fed).
Hence, davits.

And I’m not a cat guy. I’ve got a dachshund who is looking forward to being first mate.
Where he sails, there are no places with 10', let alone under the keel... But it's soft mud...

Congrats! I'm with you on no bimini as well...and yes, I've lived, raced and cruise on the Chesapeake Bay for 30+ years.
That said, I've had 6 skin cancers removed from my face and upper back, and 3 more to be removed here shortly...so maybe I shoulda had a bimini

Well, there's your problem right there. I've had three dachshunds, two of which lived on boats.
Your dachshund is not looking forward to being first mate. He/she is looking forward to being captain.

Seems like a Ted Hood thing. We had 17 on our Bristol 45.5. Some could not be seen but could be operated by someone who knew where they were ... and had long arms (at least one long arm). Beginning of each month I would visit each in turn (sorry).

I have 3 below the WL and it's a 12m hull. If I installed a composting type head then I'd have 2 including the main seawater intake. 11 is ridiculous.

It seems so to me too, but not so easy to cut down without compromising systems that already exist:
- engine raw water intake
- generator raw water intake
- sea chest intake
- head discharge (fore and aft)
- holding tank discharge (same hole in the boat as the forward head discharge, but has a separate valve you have to open/close each month)
- sink drains (galley and forward head)
- cockpit drains (2, 1 shared with aft head sink)
- watermaker
Just another example of more systems=more maintenance.

Ye Gods! Just the thought of a dachshund on a boat.
My wife convinced me that we needed dachshunds. I should have learned from that first Christmas at the in-laws, when their Blitzen peed on the creche and bit the 3-year old nephew. But we proceeded to get a miniature who thought he owned us, then another 'miniature' that grew into a standard - the size where you could put a drink on his back if he'd stand still. Yes we loved those two stubborn rascals. But we came to our senses and moved onto trainable dogs after they departed us. At least I never let them set foot on the boat!

A dachshund should be a great boat dog. Go slowly so you don't scare him-her at the start. Over-dogged is the biggest problem people have.

We got hauled in Brisbane and I asked them if they could lift us high so I could antifoul the centreboard (12' draft). I thought they would do this in the morning but they did it the night before so the paint could dry well. After a busy day working on the boat we decided to get a pizza for dinner. Around midnight the pizza did not agree with my wife and she had to go down the 20' extension ladder from the boat to the ground (no holding tanks for the heads). Tough to go down a long ladder holding your butt cheeks tightly together. Ah, the elegance and romance of long-distance cruising.

I'm with you on Biminis. I don't have one (mainly because there's no room under the boom), but I've sailed on boats that have them and I find them very claustrophobic. From the skin cancer standpoint, I totally understand, but I still don't like them.

You don't need a big dinghy with a 15hp engine. A small one with a flat bottom and 2 oars give you the liberty to get ashore dry and there is no need for davits to lift it up.
Don't know if they still manufacture them but the British "Avon" without transom were smaller and even easier to pack and store.
