Got to say I am conceptually with Nauti on this one....

You own a house in a nice neighborhood, one of the reasons your neighborhood is nice and your house is worth something is because the neighbors all contribute to the value through the upkeep of their properties. It is, like many things, a social compact. If one of those parties fails in their part of the social compact, then all the other people in that social compact suffer. They suffer mildly from having to look at the eyesore but the suffer more concretely through the negative impact on their property value.

The neighbors seem to have bypassed reasonable and polite convention by going directly to the authorities. We don't know the back story... maybe they actually had gone to her, or maybe they knew from prior conversations that she is the whiney bitch that she so clearly comes across as. The right approach (IMHO) would have been to speak to her, and then resort to the authorities if that did not result in action.

On her part... what the fuck? To bring your high ranking military husband into the story?! You just don't do that, and she has certainly fucked up his career as a result. I would come straight home, divorce her ass and let her enjoy the new life in some dumpy apartment somewhere. That is about all she deserves. And what the hell is with the excuse about the 16 year old kid.... that hill and retaining wall barely qualifies as a bump, let alone a hill. Get your lazy, couch-sitting, TV-watching fat kid off his flacid ass and have him mow the lawn.

Glad to see the Canadians have the same sort of parasitic lazy whiners as we have in the States. Misery loves company.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Rear Admiral Maddison's office when he places the call to HMCS VDQ today.

I might even feel sorry for her if she was a single mother and it wasn't the fact that her husband is making 6 figures, she could have called the Military Family Resource Centre and she has 2 teenaged boys that could help her out.

I am an officer's wife. My husband, who is very career oriented, wouldn't be embarrassed or humiliated if I let the grass get long and a neighbor with too much time on their hands whined to the authorities.

I'd also like to think that Rear Admiral Maddison has bigger issues on his plate that some bullshit local interest piece about lawn care. Regardless of anyone's armchair summary of the dangers out at sea off of Somalia this women's husband is deployed. Being the only care taker of a family is hard. That is not a complaint. Its just the reality.

This women should move into a house that she can handle on her own. I'd recommend a condo or townhome if landscaping is something she can't afford or keep up with on her own. Clearly the relationship with the neighbors is not going to work well.

It would be one thing if the grass had actually been long enough to warrant a citation of some sort... but it wasn't.
