It was just under 4 years ago that Mexico Beach Florida was directly hit by a Cat5 storm named Michael. It only leveled one of the largest Air force bases in the US. It seems to be largely forgotten because we don’t have the population density of south Florida.

I can seriously not understand why some people do not evacuate. The same happens during wildfires. Some people think they can save their property. It is really quixotic!

Seeing this sort of surge is giving me a PTSD flashback to Hurricane Sally from just two years ago. I googled 'Hurricane Sally' and the predictive drop down showed a list of the next search words. I chose 'imagery' and clicked and the NOAA aerial page opened up to ground zero at our humble fish shack on Cotton Bayou! Not sure if Google did that knowing my location, but it may be that the massive boats stacked up in our yard and the grounds and pools of the condos next door have become the poster child for Sally.
I circled our fish shack and my 28' trimaran in red but look at the 95' headboat and 65' Hatteras that almost took out the shack! I have YouTube videos of those boats being craned and rollered off the property a couple of months later. This sort of thing will be happening for several months following Ian.

Just for the record, here is the WEATHER OR KNOT getting hauled off our place by a huge crane barge by using giant inflatable rollers.
Then a couple of weeks later the same outfit had to offload the big crawler crane onto the shore to reach and lift the 65' Sportfisherman (which was actually heavier than the aluminum workboat!). I came into the kitchen when the big crane diesels woke my up. I was getting pretty used to getting up when all the heavy equipment engines cranked up early but as I was filling my coffee pot I looked out the kitchen window and was stunned to see the Sportfisherman swinging right up over the corner of our house!! I mean actually hanging over the roof! I ran out and started yelling why they hadn't swung the opposite direction over open ground but those roughneck dudes paid no attention... I usually would take a second pot of coffee out to them after I had had mine but not that day! It did make for a much more dramatic IPhone video though. I wish I had set up for a long time lapse of the whole operation.
