That's not exactly true. SS with holding tax is calculated separately from income tax in general. SE taxis also taxed differently than income generated from wages, or "other income".
I was SE most of my life, and I paid a much higher rate than my peers who had "wages". At the time looked at it as my duty to have my freedom tax. Now I think I was just being penalized for not becoming a corporation, or more likely a non-profit org.
Do you think trump and folks like him pay SS of Cap Gains or Carried interest? How about on loans against assets, a common way for a wealthy person to get cash flow? Nope.

What do you consider shitty music? I'm there if you say disco.
20-30-40 years ago I would have agreed with you. But compared to the auto-tuned crap that's being produced all across the board today, from C&W to R&B to Pop to god knows what it's called, a lot of the 70s era Disco was well written, performed, and produced. Sure it wasn't The Beatles, or David Bowie, or even Marshall Tucker, or Jessie Colin Young, but it was mostly real music.

It’s a broad brush…but Trump is a boomer, most of his followers are boomers. As the large voting cohort (boomers) policy follows their needs. When they had young families, policy favored young families. Now they want to pass on wealth to their family so it’s death taxes, low cost insulin for Medicare but no one else….etc…

Most R are Boomers.
Bullshit.

Anybody who says boomer music was shitty is simply tone deaf.

Meh…’’murica is a gerontocracy, run by The New Balance crowd. Doesn’t mean every Boomer is bad, but the policies don’t lie and they have been in that cohorts favour all the way.
just like the generation before them and the generation before that and....
assuming you're of younger cohort, your age group will look out for their interests, too.

It's would interesting to see an accurate breakdown of the percentage and the social background of Boomers that are bitter selfish fucks, and how many retain at least some spark of the idealism of their youth.

No idea of the statistics- but that generation is running the show and barely stepping aside. I don’t think it’s about idealism. It’s normal for a cohort to vote in its own interest. That’s what has happened.

All the things that got Boomers started in life were cut starting with Ronnie (Trump is just the ultimate expression of Reaganism) just about the time that Boomers were becoming tax payers. The roll-back on support for state tuition, the gutting of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mac. All too expensive, but ok on an unfunded prescription benefit for Medicare. And let’s cut estate taxes just at the start of one of the biggest transfers of wealth in history. Ronnie makes a trope of the welfare queen yet it’s ok to pay the biggest welfare queens in the US - farmers.

One could argue the “war on drugs” the “war on crime”, we’re to support “safe” suburbs and property values but at the cost of just about everyone else.

Some Boomer is Floriduh is trying to disenfranchise me because I live on a boat - I must be a LiBuRal.

What we call Socialists and “Progressives” would be centrists anywhere else. Most places already have those things. When I have had to lau people off, the only people that don’t get severance are the US employees. Even the Chinese get severance.

Ok, rant over. You get my drift.

California made one of the largest and smartest investment ever when it started its almost free secondary education system. This education system spawned one of the largest economies in the world and that’s before you include the the pacific rim countries and other that piggybacked off of that development. Where’s the equivalent investment today? *

* Yes, the Cold War also allowed CA to build an aviation industry and sent the bill to Washington- but you still needed the secondary education for that.

Social Security and Medicare can be paid for if we wanted to. But we don’t, because I got mine.

Most R are Boomers.
Also, most trade union members are or were Boomers or one could say that Trade Unions were strongest when the Boomer generation made up most of the workforce.

Do you think that non of America's blue collar workers were born in the Boomer years?
Do you think all those working class Boomers made it to the gravy train?

If you resent actual working people getting out of the ditch through their efforts of demanding better, i think you should be turning in your Union card, if you actually have one.

Maybe the Generations that came after could ponder why the working poor
1) no longer pay their dues and Join Unions
2) are so vulnerable to anti labour propaganda?

Millennials and Gen Y destroyed the only mechanism for change that poor people have in reality, the Union.
So lay off your "greedy Boomer" bullshit.

I get really tired of hearing blue collar workers blamed for the woes of the USA's tattered political situation.

If they're not being blamed for destroying the economy with wage and conditions demands by the capital class, they're being blamed by the left (ish) liberal class for being too stupid to vote in their own interests.

I think if one really looked deep, you'd fine that over all, the Trump/GOP base is actually not at all blue collar proletariat or even "Working Class" but as usual the Bourgeoisie, the difference being that what other countries call middle class or bourgeoisie, the USA call working class.
I'd call em kulaks .

A peasant in USA wealthy enough to own a farm or small business and hire labour.

You're waving the false flag the Capitalist want's you to wave and are weakening the credibility of those you should be supporting.

Well, the factories moved to “Right to Work” states in the South. Capital is mobile. Workers less so.

Ever heard of a General strike?
Unions have real power when they have actual fucking members and when they support each other. Power enough to counter Capitalist propaganda, Power enough to punish Capital.
The brevity of your response speaks loud

Bullshit. I worked in a blue collar field starting in the 1970s and I was never a union member, nor particularly wanted to be. The unions were waning in the USA for a long time, IMHO from a loss of economic imperative on the part of workers, their own corruption, and general malaise in leadership. I knew of good union locals but most were mediocre check-cadgers and the one that I had most experience with was most interested in shielding it's members from drug screening. Kind of like police unions don't care about the conditions of a member killing a citizen, they just want no consequences.

I also don't think it's much the case that Boomers have voted in a nearly fascist (tiered justice, corporatist, militarist) gov't out of self-interest. It's more a case of a falsely perceived promise of security, and of course the ever-increasing culture war against gays, blacks, pointy-head smarty-pants like scientists and gov't doctors, and of course libby-rulls.

If you look at the voting stats, that crap about TFG being the boomers fault is just that - crap.

Republicunt support is based on stupid, not age. Any of these look like boomers (min. age 59) to you?

Higher percentage of over-60s support trump than under-40s

The biggest split is urban/rural, I think. A lot of poor areas with nothing but dirt and shit jobs voted overwhelmingly for Trump.

You mean the. "Why should I join the Union when I get all the things they win anyway" thing?
As to the rest, unions can be no more or no less corrupt than their capitalist counterparts.

Funny how no one hardly ever says

"I'm not joining an insurance scheme because they are all corrupt"

Or
" I'm insisting the CEO gets alcohol tested"

Or
My boss is mediocre so I'll find another.

Non of us are completely immune to the capitalist spin machine are we?
