I want to install two inspection ports on my Laser for air flow, on in the front and one in the back. Where the best place to install these on a Laser?

Other than that, I can't recommend a location, though -- one of the worst places to locate one (beside the obvious) is just beyond reach of backing for important rigging. :lol:
Incidentally, a while ago I read elsewhere in Dinghy Anarchy that someone blew apart his (5O5?) when he aimed the "blow" end of a shop vac into an inspection port.

Is this a good placement for the ports? I want the port on the front to also be able to be used to reinforce the mast step.

I have been told by a Laser dealer that the inspection port on the bow deck should be off center. I don't know the reason. But that is what I was told.

Right now
I once had an inspection port beside the centreboard slot. It had a small removable bucket that was handy for storing a few things.

I've never heard this but then I've never talked to a Laser dealer about the topic. I have added inspection ports in front of the mast step on many Lasers through the years as required to reinforce the mast step and have always centered them just like the Admiral shows in his picture. The foam core of the deck is not present along the centerline (smooth section of gelcoat). No big deal. Also, don't mess with attaching the ports with screws - just use silicone. A port like @Bill5 mentions is really nice to store your lunch for long days on the water. Also, with that port next to the CB trunk you can duct tape a spare vang key to the underside of the port.

These pics are of the complete and refurbished laser! New updated rigging, a new Radial sail, as well as a centerboard and bottom section I got from @Alan Crawford. I had a great deal on the Harken Vang I got a used for $175. I 'm very pleased with the paint job, I sanded it down to 1500 grit, the hull is vastly smoother than it used to be originally
I'm taking it to a local regatta this week with a nice little 9 boat fleet, should be fun!

BTW, this is the regatta I'm doing https://www.erieyachtclub.org/erie-open-regatta, the forecast looks absolutely perfect, 85 degrees and 16 to 18 kts, woopeee! I can't wait!
