Yes- but I don't believe the NA builder is a dead issue yet. However, we're up to 6 or 7 now in total builders. I, (and I believe everyone else) consider that a big win over the previous arrangement. No one is building cheaper anything's now so that's out the window. Based on what I'm hearing the new ILCA-NA Chair has a focus on District level, (which I consider grass roots) support. I'm assuming we'll hear from him when he gets back from the world council meeting.
Great news .It's quite the opposite in fact.
We'll be producing ILCAs, in North America, in early 2023.
Our first set of molds leaves Wednesday bound for Rhode Island.
The last 3 years have been crazy for the class. The main builder stopped supplying and got fired, the iconic name of the boat had to be removed, there was an intense Olympic defence, and the world effectively shut down for a couple years. Coming out the other end, there are 6 or 7 world-class builders - including one in NA next year, parts are flowing, regattas are revitalizing and there is a vibrant second hand market for the grassroots sailor. And there stands @Wess, all alone with his three part vang looking for a free drink. It's quite the opposite in fact.

Weak. There is no more wind in your sails. Take a hike.Old fart typing on phone while tired after long hike miles from ocean water. It’s amazing what you can do and see in this country for the price of a new ILCA boat! Heck it’s amazing what you can see and do in this country for the price that ILCA takes off the top of your purchase of a new ILCA. Even a Chinese built one! 😀
Time to start saving up for that drive to R.I. to save on the delivery fee. Maybe swing by Brandt Beach for an initial sail too! It's quite the opposite in fact.

Angry? Not at all. I live 45 mins away from the Rockies and can go hiking there for the price of a 3 part vang. Not sure I get your point…We did Bill! Was fun. And did cost less than what ILCA take off the top of a new boat price! Why so angry? View attachment 559438
The point is there are lots of fun things you can do for less that the price ILCA takes on a new boat sale even if you ain’t sailing in ILCA events.
Well they could collect membership fees from sailors that want to join the class and sail in their events.I'm really really confused --- the ILCA arrangment isn't any different from any multibuilder onedesign. The owner/licencer of the design always gets royalties etc.
ILCA is slightly different in the running rigging is so restricted that it is also controlled.
Should people anyone be allowed to build what ever boat they want with no controls? How is ILCA supposed to ensure 1 design compliance if it collects no money and has no employees? Is ILCA supposed to be entirely staffed by people that can afford to volunteer their time and never get paid?
