A guy from our local dept. got himself videod by one of these “First Amendment” activists and put up on YouTube as a fascist, Nazi inspired thug for asking for ID. He got a little ruffled in the video and forgot that you don’t need to show ID if you are videoing a police station. Anyway, he pulled me over last week and was extremely courteous and issued me a verbal warning for driving while distracted. So overall the police in America are incredibly well behaved, but I have no issue admitting there are bad examples out there. Sadly those are the ones that get posted to YouTube. I took 24 calls for service today, got cussed out three times and never said a harsh or mean thing to anyone beyond "don't interrupt me" to someone who asked why they were being trespassed then they started yelling at me again. But you won't see any of those calls on YouTube or the 50 something other calls my partners took.
Beyond that, most people don't understand how violence works, there isn't a pretty way to take someone who doesn't want to be arrested into custody. Sometimes it is brutal and mean. Most people don't see violent behavior daily and have no idea what it looks like beyond movie choreographed fights.
Now, as for how do I work with those people. I don't, we have one guy at our department who can be an asshole to people. He doesn't bid the shift I supervise now because I have disciplined him for his actions when he was on my shift. Plenty of good cops do all we can to get rid of the bad apples.
Medical marijuana is legal here now and most places have made simple possession a non-arrestable offense or just a ticket only type thing. Is pot legal where you work. And how has that affected your work?
You contact 911 to report a death. They send the police. Just because it appears to be a natural death, police are called to secure the scene while the paramedics come and try to get an EKG reading to see if there is any life. Sometimes crazy things happen at the location of a death. Upset family members can get real ugly fast.you call police when someone dies a natural death? WTF?
there you go, a question for Mr Green.
Yep, he explained it well. In Oklahoma the police have "possession" of the body until we contact the medical examiner and they agree to release it to the funeral home. Then we wait until they are picked up to leave. Always sucks to spend what is usually an hour two with a grieving family.you call police when someone dies a natural death? WTF?

People forget we are human, if I show up to a call and don't seem cheerful to be there it might be because I just got cussed out at the last call, or watched a person I was performing CPR on not make it.A guy from our local dept. got himself videod by one of these “First Amendment” activists and put up on YouTube as a fascist, Nazi inspired thug for asking for ID. In the US, you have guns, drugs(especially the ones that get you super high and dangerous or just kill you from Fentynal poisoning) and violent resister to arrest. Our guys spend so much time responding to overdose deaths and administering Narcan to save drug users that I can see why they are not all like good ‘ol Andy Griffith.
And when you want to shit heavily on the police, remember this. When the shit goes very bad, they are the first call you will make.
I still feel terrible for the rookie who came to our house this past Easter night when my 8 year old daughter suffered cardiac arrest. She luckily survived, but for me to have to thank a cop and tell him there is nothing more that he can do for us as he’s staring at my almost lifeless daughter in the ER- that hurts. He then had to go on with the rest of his shift...
Then my Mom died 4 days later and the 3 officers that responded were super courteous and let us reposition her body( she had been frozen by Parkinson’s for years) to a natural position for transport and say a prayer of goodbye over her.
Here is the latest Top Ten list:Good to see you back Vernon, a view from your perspective was and is always interesting, look forward to more.
(somebody care to pass on the latest Troll/sock list to Vernon?? he may well need it)
I thought it was the coroners job to determine if its natural death.............??you call police when someone dies a natural death? WTF?
there you go, a question for Mr Green.
In the US it varies from state to state. In my home state of Pennsylvania, if the death is unattended (that is not in a hospital or other health care facility where doctors are available) then the coroner must be notified. However if the funeral director calls the coroner from the place where the deceased is and says he knows the family and it was death by natural causes, often the coroner will say OK on the phone and he will sign the death certificate, without further action. In PA, coroners aren't doctors and they are elected to the job. They are often funeral directors. Pathologists perform autopsies at the hospital when necessary, sometimes the coroner is present to witness the autopsy. Some states have Medical Examiners that perform the function of a coroner, but they are required to be medical doctors. In some states, paramedics can declare a patient dead at the scene.I thought it was the coroners job to determine if its natural death.............??
And a follow up to that, if I may...Do you still like body and dash cameras? I still do and still don't trust cops who are camera shy.
hey welcome back.. hopefully life wasn't too hard on ya... so how's it been up there since weed legalization..Used to hang out here a lot! Work and life took me away for a while, but I am back and want to introduce myself to those that don't know me!
I am a cop at a fairly small department and am on a regional swat team.
Have any questions you have wanted to ask a cop, now is your chance. Keep it civil.
