Raw milk is legal in CA.

Raw milk is going to go bad in about a week. That's ok if you're using it a lot and turning it over. If you're like me and only use it for coffee, that's not going to work.

Takes less than week. Depending on temp and handling (microbacteria in it's environment, and how many chances have bad bugs get into it) it can go bad in less than a day.

The problem is not "raw milk," the problem is that people who scoff at food safety already are likely to be lax about every stage of keeping raw milk safe/unspoiled.

But marketing -IS- reality.
it's not milk because somebody says it is "milk," it's milk because ADVERTISING says it's milk!

Just like drinking Pepsi gives you a brighter smile and girlfriend with big boobs.
When we were starting up Fairlife about 10 years ago it included a protein shake product the dairy co-op that co-founded the company had been producing on one of their farms for a while, now known as Core Power (Coke being the other founder btw). Without writing several pages explaining the technical aspects of how its done, Core Power is real milk, with real milk liquid protein, no powders, no chemicals etc. and real fruit slurries or cocoa for the flavored varieties. All Fairlife products are the real deal, no bullshit; I intimately know the process from start to finish. Anyway, “Muscle Milk” had flooded the market with their “protein shake”, which contains no milk and consists of chemical proteins and a variety of unpronounceable laboratory products. We went to court and were granted judgement requiring MM to put “CONTAINS NO MILK” in bold caps immediately under the MM name on the label for several years, after which they were allowed to reduce the font size but had to keep it there (which it still is). I can’t stand false advertising and marketing loopholes.

Core Power also stores unrefrigerated and stays fresh for a year+, and Fairlife milk for 90+ days due to the way they’re pasteurized (steam injection). It kills all bacteria present just before being aseptically bottled. Also stays fresh much longer than regular dairy after open if you’re not drinking from the jug etc. Pretty awesome.

" This week, the North Dakota House of Representatives passed House Bill 1515, which would legalize dairy farms to sell raw milk to consumers. "A debate over whether dairy farms should be able to sell unpasteurized milk pitted proponents of consumer freedom against advocates for public health, "

This is interesting.
When I was a kid on the farm, there was a woman in the area who simply could not make enough "Mom milk" to feed her baby, and cow milk wasn't working either.

We gave her goat milk.

raw, unpasteurized, not "inspected"
, hand milked (by me)
, filtered through several layers of cheesecloth and into the 'fridge

You probably had clean hands, took care. You ever seen a factory milk production facility? Listeria, Sam and Ella, other nastiness.

Yes and no, it depends on how strict the sanitation culture is and how well it’s enforced. Also much easier to start with a new facility and keep it clean than to sanitize a “dirty” one. Once bacteria gains a foothold it’s a never ending war.

when we were kids my mine bought a 2 gallon pail of raw every few days from the guy close by. He had 50 head, maybe. Wheaties with the cream off the top? Amazing.

My aunt & uncle “down home” in Carolina had a dozen or so milk cows on the farm, I remember well the berries & peaches with the cream off the top of the morning pail. Summers in my early years were pretty special.

Cleaning takes time (as well as semi-skilled labor + materials) and we all know TIME = MONEY
Therefor making it as cheaply as possible means making it in filthy facilities.

And it's the goddam intrusive gov't over-reach with its intrusive regulations and jack-booted thugs which keep that money out of the pockets of its rightful owners! So what if customers get sick? Fuck 'em. Let the buyer beware!

Bingo! My hat is off to you, starting up and running a healthy profitable business. IMHO business should be part of it's community and the idea that it's seperate can only be sustained with some highy artificial constraints in several interacting markets. I am NOT anti-business at all!

Thank you sir, to be clear however I didn’t have skin in the game beyond making sure that the principals received a return on their investments (much sooner than forecast) and make it possible for the agreement between them to reach fruition (Coke buying out the co-op’s shares at a very healthy profit for the member farmers). After 8 years I collected my pay & bonuses and moved on to the next project.
