If Mercedes AMG F1 design team can deliver him the fastest boat yes he has a chance. I think your slightly missing the point that I badly tried to put forward. In his last campaign he failed badly and that was largely his fault. He tried to do too much IMO. This time around it seems from the outside the funders have a different approach and have advised Ben accordingly. I think this time around could be their last unless they win the challenger series? I could be wrong but they need to win the series and face NZ for the Cup. As the challenger of record I think this must happen.

Agreed. If it informs anything, Ineos Gernadiers pro cycling as the best funded team have had their worst year on record by miles, but there is no talk of throwing in the towel.
Ben was wearing too many hats in auckland. So that kind of goes opposite against the "just there for the paycheque" idea.

The other issue is that maybe he is not the best driver, but i don't see him giving that up. Dual helm will inform that.

but yes, it really does come down mainly to the boat. Jimmy Spithill won the AC twice, both with the better boat. then he lost it in the next two finals to Peter Burling who both times had the better boat. I don't think that proves much of them as sailors. I have a sneaking suspision that the design team could throw a lot of combined marginal gains and come up with a rocketship here that makes it a cakewalk come sailing time.

A lot less towing than I expected from Ben's comments. Presumably they verified what they needed, possibly more quickly than they feared or even expected

Why are F1 called Silver Arrows?





The constructor first got the title Silver Arrows in the 1930s when silver was synonymous with German racing cars. Allegedly, the origin was as a weight-saving scheme by not painting the bare metal of early cars. But since modern F1 cars are primarily made of carbon fiber, it's very much a choice in 2022

Silver Arrow is not a name I conceived - the story came from AC.com and was just republished with proper attribution, with some more images from RFS.

Just journalistic licence, I think

Officially it is still T6 as far as I know.

Hasn't all of their testing so far been pulling it directly behind the tow boat with both foils in the water. Would it be better to pull the boat at an angle and simulate one foil sailing by pulling it from the mast?

That's what the assumption was from the stub mast and the assertion that lots of tow testing would be done. But perhaps not. Who knows
