No need to pin it specifically on the F1 team, BA has the same doubts on the AC36 VPP, he said that clearly in a recent interview. I’ve forgotten where.
Yeah I remember watching this same clip and without saying it exactly, Ben pretty much admitted that they had close to zero confidence in their last sim/modelling and were going to be using T6 extensively for verifying the output from their new modelling rather than specific parts testing

Fair enough, but specifically as to why they couldn't use the vast library of data from the last cup to refine the simulator, there must have been a fundamental problem with data quality/collection.
Otherwise, why wait for the LEQ12? Given the option, you'd want to plow everything into completing this task before the next cup had been announced.

I wonder if any team missed an opportunity by not trying or succeeding to license software from Artemis' commercial entity. They clearly were pretty close to the mark in Bermuda.

thread diversion. has there ever been a longer form video of this?
A 30 minute documentary with behind the scenes look into how they did this all cloak and dagger would be incredibly interesting.
I do recall seeing a video of it 'stable' foiling in that tow config

Sometimes you want clean data and start anew.

That doesn't follow. Data collection is one thing, using it effectively to build models for prediction is another.
Remember that UK seemed to jump around trying other ideas they saw on the competitors. They didn't seem to follow a logical progression of development. The data they collected may contain so much noise or not be based upon valid underlying assumptions.

Again, I will be disappointed if the final decision by the MC disallows that instrumented tow tube. It has no real 'mast' function - is not D sectioned, has no tracks to raise sails, is not even mast length. If you turn your head sideways, then does every bowsprit also qualify as a second mast?

Nope. Spar, maybe.

My feel is that the Brits are already behind the 8-Ball. Other Teams are training and testing and their new Test Boat "T6" is spending most of the time in the Shed!

I'm not convinced that is true. 2 x Teams are sailing an older AC75, 1 x team has a busted AC40 and isn't sailing when they thought they would be. Another is capsizing and damaging rigs. I'm not seeing much to be honest. At least the Poms have a strategy and they are sticking to it. If it doesn't work they weren't good enough. This isn't meant to be easy and I'd rather they try and win it rather than just improve over last rendition.

So, INEO S design a low cost work around to getting reliable and qualitative testing data for their challenge and have it banned(?) for the treasonous act of "oh shit they have a leg up on us here, do something about it" (I mean not really, but this is the AC after all). I even heard 'cost cutting' in there somewhere justifying this decision....

I swear to god these America's Cup team never learn. When will the lesson be learnt: if you have or believe you have something that can give you a legitimate advantage. It never sees the light of day or a camera lens unless it absolutely has to be there. I thought after ETNZ revealing their foiling AC72 and the subsequent silence from the same outfit in AC35 that the lesson had been learnt. But no, INEOS just had to parade this towing mast out in the open for (what I assume) are fitting tests.
