The tow mast is finally dead. A very small win for INEOS in that there was a concession that requests/enquiries about component classifications is done on a case by case basis with specific details to be outlined in request. But tow mast ruling doesn't set a precedent for any other parts and there isn't a hint of any back tracking on the previous case.

The rules committee and other teams declined the request to set out in more details 'purposes' of the limited equipment, so if INEOS were right in their argument we might be seeing a good few queries and some unfortunately or strategically timed...

I doubt Jim R and his family visit the clubhouse except for fund raising events. They own a ski in-ski out chalet at Courchevel where they dont need to share showers with the merely wealthy and the chef is better as well.

The concept of a revenue generating club house seems a good one to me, and not dissimilar to some community sailing programs which diversify their income sources by running a fee based program to help pay for a youth program which is either free or heavily subsidized.

I was once asked to join the board of a financially troubled charity which provided free sailing programs for inner city youth. The new board task force quickly realized that (i) we had to get off the teat of local government grants and (ii) We had an incredible under exploited asset, which was a waterfront location to die for. It was much easier to fund raise for a tangible capital item than fund raise for running expenses. So raising money to build a first class facility where membership was prestigious and had the added "do good" factor of paying for hundreds of kids to benefit from a first class sailing and STEM experience at zero cost was a good formula.

I agree that benefits of skiing to growing character and a passion for science is a little less obvious to me...but i recognize that I am biased in favor of sailing and the French are crazy for their skiing.

All I can say, is that I wish I had Jim Ratcliffe around to cut a 4 million check for a cause I was trying to promote. I got bleeding knuckles knocking on doors for $25,000 checks.

This "boat" begs the question whether it was originally designed to be towed, as opposed to sailed, much like back in the IACC days teams spent a lot of time tank testing. Perhaps they banked on the tow mast being allowed under the rule, and instead of a sailing program, their approach was more of a full size, real world tank testing approach, and due to the tow mast set back, they're now trying to adapt the program. She definitely seems far more comfortable and manageable under tow than under sail.

Obviously to anyone with an IQ higher than that of a cretin, she was always designed to sail as well as tow, since she was designed from the off with sail control systems that are not much use under tow.

As for stability under sail, once again you forget what the LEQ12s are for. It isn't sailing fast

One thing for sure is they are way behind on time sailing the boat. It's a bit early to draw conclusions but from the outside it looks like they are lagging behind. Looking at SailGP you cannot rely on the crew been better than the rest.

But does it matter? Or at this stage, is it all about the quality of the CFD? I have a sense that AM, for instance, is running a splendidly well-conceived and resourced programme for the later stages of the IACC era.

It will be interesting to ultimately see but I'm afraid, for me, this point of the cycle isn't very interesting at all. Others are clearly enjoying it, which is fine.
