As always it's amazing how many internet warriors know better than teams with hundred million budgets, advanced simulators and expert designers.

I've seen it in my own field where dickheads on the internet know the best solution before me. Funny how they are always so confident but disagree with each other. But all are right

You mean like foil up wind and down, tack/gybe, like it did prior to the last cup and has since done In The recent INEOS video.

oh and it lets the inboard half of the foil sit more vertically with more Lee way resistance and the out board end sit more parallel to the surface with more vertical lift.. the kink can also allow surface penetration without the ventilation migrating over the entire foil surface too

It's dog's dinner of a foil - you could foil up and down with an ironing board, so what, you keep telling us it's slow on purpose
And sure breaking the equation up into bits at 90° to the surface will make the calculations easier but even a dummy realises that the sum of 2 parts pulling in different directions is... well the same as a straighter foil at some intermediate angle and that the drag penalty for all the corners makes it a non-starter - with or without the farm-store hinges.

Madness, let's hope shebeen is right and it's a gimmick to send ?? (a three year old maybe) down the wrong track - that way your dogged defence can be justified!

Now quick, lets talk about F1 or cycling of marathons maybe, one of the other bought and paid for teams anyway that's doing slightly better....

Those hundred million dollar budgets, "advanced simulators" and "expert" designers haven't done them any good in the last 2 cycles have they.
Infact they admitted their sim was shit, and they fired their "expert designers" in favour of race car designers.

This is the rules they work under.
You don't give up and out the box idea just because it won't have a surprise factor.

let's go the whole hog to the either end of the spectrum..
*just because it's on the recon, it doesn't mean the other teams have a solid YES/NO input on whether to go down this route themselves.
*if it is the nizzlgism of foil options then Ineos are months ahead of the others
*if it is not, they can just talk it up and waste everyone else's time considering it whilst they park the idea in secret.

They tried the W shaped foil last cup. Pretty sure that all of the other teams have done some analysis on that design since then and would know if it is a "breakthrough" idea. Like all foils, it most likely has some pluses and minuses.

For a change that hardly interacted with the environment. Very different from foils and sail. Of course NZ also tested their foils in secret and then changed the rules to make sure noone else could
