Late to this discussion, sorry. But you remind me of going up (can't remember why) on an old ior boat whilst barreling downwind. Was only part way up when the boat rolled. A combination of whatever I was doing and the main stopping me hooking round the mast and prevented me getting a good grip so I went one way and the mast the other. By the time we came back together I had twisted. Cracked 2 ribs. We weren't even racing iirc (I think it was post the fastnet on the way back to the Solent)Yeah, sometimes <lol>
I once got to "enjoy" a roundup while at the masthead of a 54-footer. For the first few seconds it was kinda cool to wonder how close I was going to get to the water... then it became apparent I was at the whippy end of a pretty long pendulum, and when the boat snapped back upright it was downright exciting for a second.
Can this one be something for you?:I was looking at Cowes Week and the half ton section. Daydreams of sailing against them.

While going through the only semi comprehensive list. It sadly lacks updates on displacement and overall weight of each boat. I recognized many of them are gone but it would have been kinda cool to see real numbers of active boat, when they were launched and what they weigh now.

Great site but has historical picture book information. Little data on the boats themselves including displacement/weight.That's where the 'Histoire des Halfs'-website comes to your rescue...
