Both Tabasco and Signature (up thread a bit) spent some time on Lake Michigan, probably late 80’s into early 90’s. The owner of a First 42 I raced on back then bought a Kevlar genny from Signature we used a couple times as a #2. Kept us tracking up the rhumb one Mac during a frontal passage that had a lot of the fleet running off. Good times.

Repaired the B&G390 on that one once. ( a faulty 4051 mux in the Hercules Processor unit, if I recall). Mr Fazer himself was aboard, and it was just two hours before they left the harbour for the Gotland Runt race start. Thanks for old fashion hole mounted components, SMD sucks !!!

Tabasco was in Chicago for a number of years, owned by Don Wittenberg. Maybe 1981-1984 or so? Had a near sister named Spring Fever (owned by Gene Kinney) there also.

I think you are correct, and my memory is not what it used to be. In retrospect, I think we did change out the original swept keel, to one like the half hull. And Britt Chance was working out of an office right here at the time, so no doubt he was involved with the replacement keel design.

Just curious about the PT32 in Toronto. What color is it? I grew up sailing a red PT32 called Gambit in Chicago, sail #6050. I'd love to know where that boat ended up and, given there aren't many PT32s around, perhaps that's it. It's blue sister ship from Chicago sail #6063 was sailing in CT as recently at 2015 using the same sail number.

FYI, the 32 does not have the external rudder the 30 had.

Sorry, I can't answer your question. My experience was only with PT30 Hull #1 "Jet", which raced here in Eastern Long Island Sound, CT, and nearly 50 years ago.

The PT32 in Toronto was painted white when I saw it 5-6 years ago, I don't know it's sail number and can't recall the boat's name. The boat was being sold as a PT32, had a hull shape that looked identical to the local PT30-2 (sail number 11785 "Tanoa"), but the hull/skeg was lengthened and the rudder mounted externally on the "new" even narrower transom. Maybe it was some kinda frankenboat and not a Plas Trend original?

Stretching existing designs with out any significant other mods for an IOR rating change was a thing in the mid 70s a la Tartan 41 and 44.

I thought the NY 36 was about the only boat with that layout, but the Spencer preceded it by a few years. Vlad had some innovative ideas. The high bridgedeck (like the NY 36) certainly facilitated such an arrangement. I always thought it looked like an appealing layout - but I don't know if it was entirely practical or not.

Certainly allows an under companionway engine to become part of useful area rather than a barrier and allows relatively easy access to the engine. Up Spirits below to refresh your memory.

A friend of mine has Chance 30-30 hull 0 (plug) with a custom deck and interior representing the beginning fo of the IOR era. Note the v-berth is at the stern, the dinette is under the massive bridge deck. Under the short doghouse is the galley and head, and forward of the bulkhead are two settees and two pilot berths with a largish locker in the bow. This is from 1971 I believe and sort foreshadows the NY36 layout.
