The Candu ll sistership Howzat was restored a few years back when its original owner bought it back as a passion project. Added m/h kites etc. Only sails club handicap. Absolutely slaughtered us a couple of Wednesdays ago.

This one likely had an OB rudder originally like most of Miller's designs in the Ton classes.
Like most boats designed for conditions for the Southern hemisphere, they were long and shorter on SA than ones you would find in North America.

They were sometimes described as a modern day "cods head - mackerel tail" design with relatively full bow sections. This made them low drag and fast off the wind, but sometimes suffered upwind in a seaway due to the bluff bow shape. Not certain why the keel and aft wings were added. Maybe a gawdawful attempt at an early days "foiler" - or IMO more likely an attempt to dampen pitching due to the full bow sections.
