ISO - J/27

I have one for sale. It's in good condition, not in one design configuration, since we only sailed it PHRF. Built in 1985.

Dual axle trailer.

Ray Marine instruments, Race Master, w/ speed and depth transducers.

Custom rudder and tiller, very light and fast.

Carbon spin pole.

$20,000

J/27 has 8'6" beam and no need for any permit.   Stay on the interstates and I cannot think of any low overpass or bridge except PA.  Even then just slide over to the left lane at a couple of points.   Beautiful trip.    Avoid I70 and you should not have any issue.   Go get that boat!

Heck yes! One of the best upgrades I made to the boat. The stock rudder and tiller weighs 60 lbs. Custom rudder and tiller weighs 22 lbs and floats.

The other upgrade was to take the genoa tracks and winches off. Saves a lot of weight and hassle. We typically sail with 4 - 5 people and in a lot of wind. You only need a #3 jib. Even in light winds we keep up with Express 27s when they use their genoas.  I also removed the cockpit teak coamings. Now you have a comfortable place to sit everywhere around the cockpit.

Always like the '27 - that looks like a nice clean example.

Anyone shopping for one now has to understand that these boats are all 35 years old,  so the care they have received is most important.

I have hull 147 in Minnesota which will go for sale providing my purchase of a J70 goes thru.   Our family used this boat for lake cruising and I did some club racing over the last 13 years and the previous owner raced locally, again in fresh water.  Racers will think it was sacrilege but I built a cabinet to replace the sink and the useless space forward of it.  I think most people would consider Captive Heart in good condition.  UK main and #3 last year. North #1 unused. Also Dacron main and jib for cruising. I have a double-axel trailer in very nice shape

There is one leak through a cabin top handrail bolt that did not respond to my fix so something may be going on there.  A corner of one floorboard has caved in.  There is a small bash mark on starboard rear quarter where I was t-boned by a boat trying to duck me and he never volunteered to fix it.  This boat has been loved.

Did you install the rudder, and if so, can you share the source? Looking to shed weight off my ass. Thanks in advance, hopefully

I’ve got a j/27- recently had some storm damage from the fender falling off and the hull bumping against the dock.

Boat has only been on freshwater but some of the cores are wet and I’m contemplating a fix but would be open to a sale if there’s someone interested in putting the right amount of love into fixing her up properly.

I'm interested. Can you send me more information? Where is the boat?

Any chance this boat is still available?
