Except it might turn them into the next elitist targets of Duh Santis now that he has bought Disney to heel, I can see it now-if you don't drive a Viking 92 you must be a commie, red meat for the willing.
When you tell people here you're a sailor, Their reapply is " Your One of Them"
It wouldn't surprise me if Desatan, puts a ban on them

Hallofucking luya!!! Somebody finally said it! Who would want to sail in WARM gin clear water and nice weather 350 days a year??!

And worse: Islands islands islands within a day's sail into a friendly foreign country!!! With lobsters!!! There oughta be a law against a place where you can sail a very short ways offshore and catch a free 3.5 kt boost up the entire east coast and beyond. It's just wrong I tell ya!

Or ... maybe Slug is just a dumbfuck?

I've been up and down the west coast as well and out to the Tortugas. I've really enjoyed the way one can take a short cut across the state by boat. I was able to sail a lot of it too.

Good thing some of us are easily pleased.

Or ... maybe Slug is just a dumbfuck?
You really have to ask? I have him on ignore now. But keep in mind he's a russian shill living in Spain (last I checked). So he thinks the only way to sail is deep draft everything. He can't being to comprehend that many boats are built for shallow water.

I sold my 7.9 to a person who plans to sail Florida. You get the draft very minimal and sail right up onto beaches.

nope , Sluggo is obviously a sailor with considerable experience .

where it got it's political leanings is another story .
I used to think that but now I think the sailing stuff is just tailoring of the Bot to suit the site it's directed at to give it credibility. Sluggo's political posting is just too outrageously stupid to be possible for a real, western sailor.

I'm sure car sites will have seemingly knowledgeable posters with the same Russian political BS.

Same for airplane sites, powerboat sites, gun sites etc.

Fakery on the web has reached truly amazing levels. We got tried on for a scam a couple of weeks ago - it was the "family member in trouble and needs money" thing but it was totally convincing as the voice of our son - knew names, his job, his speech patterns etc. He checked it out through his job (cop) and found the creeps are now using AI to imitate people in a totally convincing way. It's only the rest where they fall down - will send a courier for the money, must be cash and so forth.

If they can do that, making a Bot like Sluggo sound like a sailor would be no problem.

I remember a decent sized Wharram in Galveston about 20-25 years ago. Possibly your Wharram?
Doubtful. Built in Galv along with a big one in the same yard. That was a 46er. I sold mine in Miami circa 1978. A minimal "cruiser" but we had a blast.

Gin clear water? Florida? We live on a canal a few minutes off Charlotte Harbor. The water off the dock is less than 6' deep. I've never seen the bottom.

There's a brown stain at the waterline of ours and every boat I see. It won't wash off with just a brush.

And then there's red tide which is now rearing its ugly head in the winter. But I won't go into flesh eating bacteria just yet.

We used to have a 7.9 fleet here. Now it's Harbor 20s.

The normal Gulf of Mexico here is clear. You pay good attention, you should know why the river and bay are brown.

Still gin clear both north and south of you J, in the gulf where sailboats belong. I was a half-assed fishing guide around Marco Island for awhile. It was goddamned paradise for a waterperson. We had red tide then but it wasn't a big deal. Betcha the bacteria were there then as well. Population has more than doubled since those halcyon days or yore [1980 ish]. It will have tripled by the next census. Tragedy of the Commons. The Peace R isn't helping but I'd bet the harbor and sound were much clearer before all those canals were dredged for waterfront lots. Ya got there too late.

Maybe you two should sell the deep draft and get something with a c/b like I have now up here in the shallows. One day my dad and I were sailing around King Harbor in a Sabot out west and some fisherman hollered, " rub a dub dub ..." and dad hollered back, "sure beats sitting on the rocks."

As a result of geography if I was deciding how to spend public money to encourage the Florida marine industry it would all go to small motor boat launching ramps , docks and fisheries improvements

This is a very important business in Florida

Sailing is insignificant

So, being a smartass is genetic? Who knew??

However, FWIW I totally agree with your dad.

You've totally failed on the geography so switching to economics will not help. No one is fooled 'cept you.

Gang, I know this is Anarchy and all, but way to hijack the thread with your geography machinations...

Florida is not the place for sailors anymore!! A whale violently attacked a sailboat, sinking it in 15 minutes, yesterday. Beware South Florida waters, all sailors!!
