J/111 prop: Gori or Flexfold?

Looks like my J/111 prop needs replacing, I'm told the hub where it meets the shaft is worn. Oddly it's a Gori on a US boat. If I can get just a new hub, great, but if I need a whole new prop, which would you all recommend as the better (faster) replacement?

We have Flexofold on the J/111. It’s great.

Our SF3300 had Gori. It was terrible. Boat only motored at 5 knots and about 0.5 in reverse. Replaced it with a Flexofold. Now we motor at 6.5 knots. Is there Gori lower drag? Not enough to be worth it my opinion. Unless you never need to motor.

Okay great, thanks. My boat actually motors at 7 kts easily. Maybe that's why I need a new prop.

I had a flex-o-fold to replace the original folder (that occassionally wouldn't pop open) on my J/109 and loved it. Also bought one to replace the fixed 2 blader that had pinked on my most recent Beneteau First 310, and loved it as well. I'd buy another in a heart beat, and they are my recommendation to anyone asking about folding 2 blade props.

The hub has a rubber core vulcanized in that absorbs vibration. It is considered a wear item. I was able to get a new hub for my Gori. You can send the hub back to Gori and they will replace the core. A little cheaper than a new hub.

Put a Gori on my J92 which was far superior to standard fit. On the 105 and 109 I had the stock prop seemed ok. I'd be happy to buy Gori again

@Jambalaya What size is the gori prop on your j92? I've got a 13"x9 gori 2 blade non race propeller for my 1GM10, 2.62:1 reduction and i can only motor at about 5.5 knots, clean bottom clean prop. What speeds so you get motoring?
It's so long ago I can't remember (around 1999), sorry. My main motivation was improving handling in reverse as I had a tricky berth in a lot of tide. The gori improved this significantly. I do recall the boat was not that speedy in ahead under motor. One J92 back then had the 2 cylinder 18hp Yanma fitted vs standard 1 cylinder 9hp which certainly had more get up and go but clearly not a realistic option for a retro fit.

You might try calling Gori (or Flexofold) and asking what size prop they would recommend. They typically have a data base for production boats, and can tell you what prop they think you should have...

Similarly, an email to Kendra at J/Boats might be worth trying. She may be able to look up the specs on the original props for the 92/92s

For Gori in the US, try calling AB Marine in RI. They were really helpful in making sure we have the right size on our boat.

Thanks folks!
I'm working with gori as well, they originally specced the prop, but i still feel l'm still a tad underpowered. I did a sea trial this weekend, and sent the data off to gori /AB marine, we'll see what they have to say about the data.

On the Euro boats, it's a Gori 2 blade 15x12 LHS. Works great in most conditions, but against +20 knots, it's a long way home. I blame that 18 hp Volvo Penta 😀
