Odd that the link doesn't work, it doesn't even work from Latitude's main page this morning.  Maybe it IS a state secret.  Here's Latitude's main page for when they get it working again:  https://www.latitude38.com/ .  When it's working, you'll be able to click on this article:

Bay Area’s J/125 ‘Rufless’ Gains Movie Star Status
The Bay Area's own J/125 'Rufless' has become a movie star with a six-minute segment in the recently released film 'Top Gun: Maverick.'

They had the trav pulled up higher than you would in those conditions simply because they wanted us to be able to see Tom sitting to leeward

Given that his character was supposed to be unfamiliar with sailing, that’s kinda what one would expect.  Actually pretty accurate behavior for a novice.

As sailing scenes in movies go, I thought that was far better than most.
My only pet peeve is that the dialog was gibberish. Didn’t she tell Tom to “raise the jib” or something like that when she sent him forward? All they needed was one sailor to review the script and they would have nailed it.

I guess I’ll have to refer to my kite as the “afterburner” with my non-sailing guests from now on.

So Russell Coutts and Will Paxton don’t count as real sailors?  They were listed in the credits as advisors for the sailing scene

I listened to the audio several times, and I would swear Jennifer told Tom to "haul in the bob stay" to depower the sails. But I'm sure Coutts and Paxton know better.

Yeah, I realized on the second watch that she directs him to take up the backstay (I think) while directing him to the pit area. Then she tells him to "tighten the jib" and does direct him to the correct winch. My guess is that Coutts and Paxton helped write the dialog, but then something changed in filming and when the production team went back to record the voice tracks for the scene they didn't fix the script. They could have easily changed "backstay" to "vang" or something.

I think they had the rig set to be overpowered deliberately for effect. If Cruise didn't like the result from San Diego, seems like he would want a lot of power. BTW, I need to open a bar. a J/125 is not particularly cheap, but she seemed to be able to afford one, even if the engine did need work.

Hey all J 125's are awesome. We just did a bunch of work which included adding an actual nav station. Thank you Jeremy. I think we are the first.

Yes we were fully remeasured this past weekend. Hope all the 125's do the same before Transpac this year or at least rewiegh.

What was the nav setup prior to the mod? A laptop and dibs on the head?

Yeah Rienrag is here for Islands and Cabo. I believe Argo 4 is at Choates as well. Heard it has to be trucked to LB as SB harbor closed with shoal.

Well, if you Look through the credits, you'll see the name of David Ellison. Kinda sounds familiar, doesn’t it? It should! David is the son of Mr.Lawrence Joseph Ellison, affectionately known as Larry! Larry happens to be the founder of a software company known as ORACLE, and a sailing team known as ORACLE RACING! Funny coincidence! One of the employees of ORACLE RACING is named Russell Coutts. Not quite nepotism, but its all “Who you know”! If it were Disney, I’d start singing “It’s A Small World, After All”! But I would not regard Russell or Will as being anything but highly qualified experts!

And I understand that David Ellison is a very qualified aviator!

Anyone interested should be a fun battle to watch with 3 J125's entered in the Cabo Race. We all start this Friday March 10th. The spread between the three boats is about 13 min/day. We are in the middle owing 4 min/day to Rienrag and Argo4 owing us 9 min/day about.
