J105 Shrouds - Weak Link

J105 shrouds have (what seems to be) an aluminum cover (see photos) that protects the rod rigging from chafing on the spreaders. Apparently it is a small but important piece to prevent shroud failure. Our cover has split and the rod rigging is now exposed to the spreader thus making it vulnerable.
Does anyone have any leads on how we can purchase or fabricate a replacement cover ?
One rigger we spoke to said we could just replace the $hrouds, but they otherwise seem to be in fine condition.
Surely there must be a more cost efficient solution.
Others must have had a similar issue.

That is called a "spreader bend" It's an aluminum tube with the flared ends, it is slid over the rod before the end is flared. Once the upper end fitting is complete, carefull measurement is done to position the spreader bend, then it is bent (along with the interior rod) to the angle the shroud makes going over the spreader tip. This fitting does two things - it spreads the bend radius to the rod (very important) and secures the rod in the spreader tip from moving vertically.
The complete 100% repair is a new bend.
There is no way to slide another bend over the rod without cutting off the lower end and straightening the rod at the bend enuff to slide the new fitting into the proper location. This may be too much bending of the rod, & there may not be enuff thread into the turnbuckle to allow for shortening the shroud about 1"
You need to talk to a rig shop that does rod
You could attempt to cobble up a piece of aluminum that matches to the OD of the bend, the OD of the rod, & bend it to the proper angle. But now you have too seize the rod to the fitting & the spreader tip so that it does not move off the bend point - and there is no way to get any friction on the rod itself

And, what are the odds that this is original equipment from 1997, or so?! 25 year on a 10 year safe lifespan? Rod rigging doesn’t last forever! Rod Rigging is still cheap when you amortize it over a decade, or more!

What they said. Replace the rod. It is important for someone to actually inspect rigging every once in a a while. It's not that hard to take out a J/105 rig.
