Hey J/35 folks, I am looking to buy a used main and #1 (that still have some decent life in them) for racing in my area (LI Sound). Does anyone doing the North American's have such older sails looking to part with?

Hello J/35 Crew:

Resilience is on the hard (er...squishy hard in my garden) with the usual list of projects including find/repair punky balsa including disturbing little split in the hull below the waterline, fix that blister in the gelcoat, see if that carbon pole in my garage can be adapted for J35, and a complete navigation/electronics overhaul.

But that's another tale. I'm here to talk winch re-sleeving.

I have a flock of Barients on the boat of various sizes and ages and they are mostly doing ok. However, one of the big 28s for the jib sheets makes sad grinding sound when spinning hard. The bearings look great so the sound is probably wear on the drum. I've seen discussions in other forums and the general sense is that re-sleeving although technically feasible is more trouble than it's worth, and new winches are the way to go.
A pair of new Harken 50s is going to set me back about $5,000 even on sale. So I have to ask: a) is re-sleeving worth it and b) who does it who knows what they're doing?

Cheers everyone

Hi all you J/35 Anarchists! I bought Scooter, J/35 hull #59 about two years ago. She's now berthed in San Pedro, CA. We've been having a lot of fun PHRF club racing. We'd like to race other J/35s in the LA/Long Beach area. If you're interested, let's get together and mix it up.

I'd also like to acquire a used #1 genoa with some life left in it. If you've got one you're willing to sell, please let me know. I can pick it up anywhere on the west coast.

Hey. I have J/35 Ragtag (hull# 271) located in Shoreline Marina Long Beach. Bought it 15 months ago. We have only done shorthanded PHRF with it to date. Happy to meet up and also talk what local races are available (I am looking towards finding more this coming season).

Hi SJM! This is great! You can email me directly at [email protected] or call me at (617) 997-1844. I will be out of commission from 12/7 to about 1/7/2023 recovering from an eye operation. There's lots of great racing in the SP/LB area. I think the most fun would be either one-on-one match racing or J/35 one design if we can find a few other Js to come out and play.

Anyone have examples of jackline configurations for J/35's? Any set-ups using the stock static tether anchor points? I am intending on installing six new anchor points but would be interested in seeing other J/35 configurations that do not need new hardware installed on the deck.

Thanks,
-Scott

Has been awhile as I sold the boat years ago (great boat btw), but from memory I had the jackline pass under the center of the single centerline bow cleat run down each side of the boat (outside the stays so you could run fore and aft without unclipping) and then on the aft end each side did a lashing (again from memory I think there were loops on both port and stbd side of jackline) from the loop to the forward most point of the stern pulpit base. YMMV and that is from memory. Good luck and enjoy the boat.
