Offshore.
I wonder if ETNZ would let them buy Te Rehutai, they're probably not as much as a threat as Alinghi in their mind and letting them mod it to V2 rules and go sailing would be a "cheap" way to get a competitive boat for the this cycle, build momentum for the next?

How does it work if France are paying for a design package?

NZ presumably aren't going to give them exactly the same design
How do France know they won't just get given a dog that is deliberately x% slower?

The one above ^ includes mention of borrowing an AC75 for training

from there,

"We have the means, thanks to Accor, to be competitive and to carry out our desire to win. We will have the means, the machine and the crew to win. We will rent an AC75 while waiting for our boat, which will be launched in spring 2024. The hull will be built by Multiplast and the masts by CDK. In terms of economic benefits on a national scale, we estimate that France will benefit from 200,000 hours of labor.

Ugh, when was the last time the Kiwi's designed a dog?
The Kiwi's have been a step ahead of all others for 10 years now.
They had a choice, as a first time team, can they out design the Kiwi's? Obviously they felt they couldn't, so they purchased a package.

This is pretty good news. Well done, K-Challenge.
I've mixed feelings about it mate!
For sure it is great News for the French to get on the Start Line. That being said I generally do not like collaborations between a Defender and a Challenger.

Some more Details...
Detailed planning:

2023:

April: launch of construction of the AC75 Orient Express, in Brittany for one year
June: installation of the Official Base in Barcelona
August: training in AC40 in Barcelona
September-October: 2 AC World Series in AC40
+ Selection & Youth training and Women in AC40
+ Competitions in SailGP seasons 3 and 4 with 14 Grand Prix on 4 continents

2024 :
January - July: End of SailGP season 4 and AC40 training in Barcelona
May: Launching and first sailing of the AC75 Orient Express
May - August included: Training and testing in AC75 in Barcelona
June -July: 1 ACWS in AC75 in Barcelona
August 22: Launch of the 37th America's Cup
September: Challengers Selection Series
October: Women and Youth America's Cup and America's Cup Match

So it looks like the 2 ACWS Events in the AC40 Class will be sailed in September-October 2023.

Sure, will add some interest. The announcement was pretty underwhelming with not even a video announcement but perhaps the PR will improve and that guy Dellapierre (sp?) who helms their SGP team is definitely charismatic.

So, with 5 Challs now instead of 4, does this affect the Round Robin format or CSS seedings plan at all?

edit: And for some French spice, will Ineos be able to beat them :)
