speaking of representing- how about those euros in the m24's! wtf, no americans in the top 5?

I think anyone that is surprised by that result does not follow the class very much, the top 3 were all in the top for worlds last year
where did i say i was surprised? the point is what are the euros doing in terms of how theyre kicking so much ass- is it boatspeed, tactics. if boatspeed, lets examine how theyre setting up their boats, whats different?
By the end of Thursday, Full Throttle was in 3rd place with 20 points and a whole host of boats were just one to a handful of points behind them. They had a terrible last day, and the boats behind them did not.
Mr Nes Pas is watching.

Waiting.

His pencils have been sharpened......
You are one weird fuck.

What is this guy going to do with pencils, jam them up your pussy? What do pencils have to do with Key West anyway? Should we be searching Craigslist for a lost lunatic?

Fucking weird.

Would have been interesting to see how much the results would have differed had it been a windier week, which is what worlds ought to be this year

Ok pencil boy.
Not a strong response there, Newbie.

You need to try harder.

Quite likely. The original Capo 26's that 'Capo 26' refers to rated 150 if I recall correctly, maybe 156 when it first came out. If this boat is one of the full on original boats I could see 156, maybe. Not 165 unless they have played with the sailplan.

It looks like they're sailing well and don't need any additional help from a gift rating.

How you doin' Espo?

I think some clarification is in order. I am sailing on the Capo 26 in question. For the most part, we have had a solidly-sailed regatta, thus the results speak for themselves. Additionally, three of us have been sailing on this particular boat through the years since it arrived new in Corpus Christi, in 1983. Further, all the crew on the boat have sailed together for a number of years - we all know this boat very well.

Here is a reality . . . yes, this is/was a MORC designed boat, but not all Capo's were created equally - some had tall rigs with open transoms and were much lighter than the Capo we are racing. This one has the short rig (by 3 feet I might add) and a full transom. It is an original boat with a spec inventory. It does not hurt that an all new carbon sail inventory was cut by Quantum for this regatta. Kind of hard to compare prep with other boats that might be sailing with older sails, maybe do not crew regularly together, or have made numerous other mistakes out on the course.

One tactical error, a bad mark rounding or missed shift on the course can cost a lot of time - that happened to us today when the Ranger 33 clocked us and corrected out over the Capo by 4:11 . . . do the math on the rating there! I think all the boats have been fairly rated. We have no reason to complain about the rating of the Ranger 33 either, any more than they have to complain of ours.

And before anyone goes off on this Capo sailing against the J24's, I will add that I sailed my J24 heads up with this very boat for a number of years as well, beating it boat for boat on many occasions. So, I know the J24s have the potential to sail heads up with this Capo. Do the numbers on the finishes . . . . we would have to rate a negative number for the J24's to beat us. Do you really think we could sail heads up with a Turbo rig Santa Cruz 50? That's insane.

You can berate the rating system if you want, or perhaps just grab a boat (Capo perhaps??) for next year and come sail in our class. By the way, we do not know anyone on the PHRF committee.

Trivia note - we lost to a S2 7.9 in this regatta back in 1997. Perhaps the S2 had a gift rating? Or maybe it was just well-sailed and we made a few more mistakes than they did?

One more day to go . . . . we came here to win and are sailing for bullets.

I generally find that when you sail well, you win, and when you don't sail well you lose. The numbers do a little bit, but very few races are decided by a few seconds.

+1

Congrats Budman, nice job. Well done

Thanks for the kudos . . . . we spent the morning and early afternoon putting up the boat and going over it for tweaks and adjustments that will help us next time we do battle - 3 pages of bullet notes. As I eluded to in an earlier post, the 7P Rule cannot be overlooked if a team expects to go out on the water and get any boat around the course in the fastest mode possible, while avoiding mistakes.

nice work budman...& congrats on a solid regatta. Now show us some tits!
LOL . . .if I had 'em I would certainly be flaunting them now . . . . yet, alas, I don"t have the right genetic assets for that display (large or small). Nevertheless, as a full on dude of the male symbol, I do appreciate the female form of physical art and attitude. On the flip side, if you're a female, Hike Bitches, (and forgive me, as I am a newbie here), I'd be happy to show you my manly dots if you really wanna see 'em. HAHA
Wow, you really are a newbie (don't take that personally)..NICE FUCKING JOB in KW!..I commented in the MORC thread as well...one of your crew or their significant other must have a pair to share with us, no?

The core of this sport is not the $$ paid professionals that never show up to the party, it is the PHRF B & C (and I should justify here anyone else that takes their own time to participate) boats that all put their own money into it, truck the damn boat themselves and take vacation time to win regattas..Maybe someday, someone will figure that out.

As usual, my pics can be found at:

Take a look at Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5

I love my new camera, but I am still working at getting the shot. Please forgive those partial heads, crotch shots, and water views that were not intentional...or were they?

It was a great week as usual. The new venue allowed for a lot more discussions and laughter about the day's racing. The lighter air made strategy more important than crew mechanics, but there wasn't much recovery time allowed for any mistakes. I got to work with the best RC crew ever; I love them all! It is such a well oiled machine that handles every scenario with ease and laughter.

Managing the start line is still the most important aspect of the class. Anybody with a lane is fast. The Euros do this for a living. Doesn't mean we won't keep trying.

Lack of SA coverage of the week is pretty silly. Wouldn't take much to line up a few people for reports. Why doesn't SA become the title sponsor and run the regatta the right way? They are the worlds largest, most visited, biggest bad asses on the web. Tired of all the finger pointing and bickering with no ideas for solutions. Key West is still a well run, great regatta. It just happens to be in an expensive place.

No worries - no ego, nor soft shell personality here. Just getting around to joining on SA . . . lurking for some time.

I agree, the core of the sport is comprised of corinthians who help perpetuate an affinity for on-the-water competition. It was a concerted effort that allowed us to make the line in KW. The pros help to evolutionize, though amateurs keep the sport healthy. We're just a crew of average guys out to have a good time doing what we love to do . . . . sail our asses off and, hopefully, take home some booty.

Now, let's see about that MORC nationals . . .we are hyped to go a regatta and race to a rule that the boat was originally designed for, but has never had the oppty to do in a REAL MORC fleet.

ps - I posted a pic of the boat on the MORC thread. Will try to post more in the coming days. We did not take any good pics of her (for obvious reasons we did not have perspective), so having to rely on outside sources. Here is a link to the Wilkes photos that were taken at KW. http://www.timwilkes.com/search.php?searchtype=all&searchoption=all&searchtext=KW11%20You%20Bad%20Girl&more=1

Why doesn't SA become the title sponsor

Acura walked away two years ago despite being offered a continuing role as title sponsor for almost nothing. Nautica is paying peanuts now too. Doesn't look like anyone wants it - why would we?

On the other hand, we would LOVE to help someone put together an SA ISAF-style sportboat regatta down there if Premiere walks away, and we will do so.

Nice job on the new boat.

Just did a quick read through on the posts.

Re: 2 races in a day versus 3. If you read the SI's, KWRW has a maximum of 10 races set for the week. For every day, but the first day, the maximum number of races is 3. Since the goal is to run Fair races as much as possible, you will find that no races are started with less than 4k of wind. If the wind drops to below 4k during a race, you will see that race shortened if at all possible. If you watched the KW weather, you would see that is what was happening during the week. For our second race of the day, the boats would go from a nice speed, to slow motion, to frame by frame for the last boats on the last leg since they also had to fight a 4k current, even with the course being shortened. Having sailed in the back of the pack in very little wind against current before, I felt their pain, but No One dropped out. Until the 5th day, the wind was not substantial enough to allow for a 3rd race. For Division 3, the boats are not able to do a 1.5/1.3 mile leg in the same amount of time as the boats in the other divisions, so on the last day we still got in only 2 races. 9 races in 5 days is still not a bad week's work.

Re: RC compensation. I get a place to stay for the week. I get a roommate. I get my RC shirts and hat. I get into the tent. I get smiles, hugs, laughter, and to chat with everyone. I pay for my flight, my bicycle, my meals, my souveniors(sp). I am up at 6:45am - 7:15am to make boat call. I carry a backback with my laptop, camera, paperwork, rule book, foul weather gear, and everything else I need that ends up weighing at least 15lbs. I ride a bicycle everywhere, in the rain(backpack has a rain bonnet), in the wind, in the heat. I take your picture at the start, maybe around marks, maybe at finishes. I blog what I see and hear from the upwind RC boats who are trying to take wind readings, move marks, and watch for any safety issues. I record your finish times. I enter in everything in my laptop regardless of how much wave swell happens, how much the boat rocks, how much it rains, if I have connectivity or not, if there is screen glare, if you all finish together, if my mouse goes flying (it is a tethered one and never wireless for that reason), or if my stomach and equilibrium is telling me that concentrating on a screen is not really a good idea. I see the results before any of you, yet at the end of the day, I still cannot tell you who won. I see every one of your faces and can tell you what boat you were on and how you looked at the start and how you struggled on a rounding, yet I don't know your name. I know that our mark boats doing a Charlie over Q with a negative and degree change within 2 minutes after the call is made is very, very cool, but know that most of you really can't appreciate how and why it happened. Even at 50, I am the youngest person on the boat and the least experienced in racing, RC, and anything having to do with being on the water, so I have no stories to tell that they haven't experienced 10 fold. My RC compensation is more than money can provide. I learn every time I am with this group, every time they talk about what you are doing on the water, what your boat is about, how your boat owner treats the boat and his crew, what they see that I can barely pick up, and how they know what is going to happen next just by looking at the sky. So, yes, I am paid and paid handsomely. You should be so lucky.

Thanks Joydot. Unfortunately most racers don't have an opportunity to be involved in RC work. If they did, they would (usually) appreciate it more. Thank you for your effort.

Where was your blog? Can you post a link?

J111 seemed to struggle to just beat the J109

Any comments?
That's funny.

Especially since the J/111 would have won by two points even if it was rated at 39, and would have finished very close to first place with a 36 rating.

Team IT will always dominate... That is why they were the chosen ones to rep. the J111... PROPS TO CLEVELAND BOYS!! AND JESPO only wishes he could sail to this caliber in a opti that bitch ass want to be sailor

enjoyed the coverage provided by the event, sailing world and YS......second to none
+1
Hey Gaucho,

With the rating the J/111 had even a J/105 owner could have won. Oh wait it was a J/105 owner that sailed the boat. I guess that's why it's a Handicap rating

Agree w/H22 . . . . excellent pics. Also, phenomenal work by Div 3 RC. One of the best-run race courses I have ever experienced.
