Take a look at Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5

I love my new camera, but I am still working at getting the shot. Please forgive those partial heads, crotch shots, and water views that were not intentional...or were they?

It was a great week as usual. The new venue allowed for a lot more discussions and laughter about the day's racing. The lighter air made strategy more important than crew mechanics, but there wasn't much recovery time allowed for any mistakes. I got to work with the best RC crew ever; I love them all! It is such a well oiled machine that handles every scenario with ease and laughter.
Joy - You took some AWESOME pics from the RC boat. Thanks for sharing. I am posting the following pics, as it helps us to see just how our crew work, boat handling and tactics helped us to clinch the win in PHRF 3. This is a sequence you took at the leeward starboard gate - a windward douse, jibe rounding. Only wish there were a couple more to show the full sequence to close hauled upwind. Thanks, again, for the great work you and the rest of the crew did on Div 3 RC!
Budman,

Not sure who you're trying to convince how well you sailed. Nobody is disputing it.

The picture sequence I thought was most interesting was her pictures from day one. The PHRF 3 start in which you guys were 2nd (or 3rd) row in a one row fleet.

Like I said nobody is disputing your win, nice work.

Good eye, Squalamax. Yes, if you look at the Day 1 sequence to which you refer, it does appear we are starting in second (or third) row. Could be construed as pretty lame from casual camera perspective. If you entertain another perspective of the sequence, you will note that, as boats began to peel down the line and build speed for the start, we punched through a nice gap at full speed and point mode, and rolled through with clear air, while others took time to ramp up to speed and begin pointing. This provided an advantage to sail our starting leg with options. I am grateful we have a retrospective oppty to observe through Joy's lens. Thanks, again. We had fun.

Why the early douse, and room for a tractor trailer to round inside you. Can't be the angle of the lens in that picture too?

Check out the entries for CRW 144 boats as of today, with 2 1/2 months to go this looks like the KW replacement as the Premeire event in the country.

Based on what I read on Scuttlebutt this week KW= DEAD

We were actually headed to the port gate and set up nicely for a smooth windward douse and rounding. We decided last second to hit the starboard gate (hence the douse/jibe) b/c of a favorable lefty that appeared. I don't think you could have driven a semi through the mark and us at the rounding, however. The last of Joy's shots shows the boat just going through the jibe and beginning the round up to go to weather. Unfortunately, there aren't a couple more shots in the series. Is what it is . . . .

Budman.......don't pay any attention to espo. If you've followed this thread from the beginning you can see he's pretty conflicted about KWRW.

Good on you and the crew!

Yes Sir . . . the visual is one with a big stick stirring a cauldron full of brown stuff. All the same, thanks. I see the Butt about Charleston. We are lobbying the owner to make the gig. Hoping this might give impetus to other MORC or PHRF boats in our class to make the journey.

I met John in '96 at KWRW...it wasn't dead. We were in the tent drinking watered down whatever and each crew had their own little circle going. The group next to me had a guy who was particularly loud...can you see where this is going? I nudged one of Hustler's crewmembers, or at least one of their clique, and said, "he sounds like the bastard child of Gilbert Gottfried and Fran Drescher....only louder." Visually, think Jethro Bodine, and for intelligence, think Jethro Bodine.

Despite his protestations, Espo doesn't care what we say about him as long as we are saying something.

I hope someone eats his lunch at CRW.

Will Espo even have a 1-D class to race against? Only 3 J/29s at this point out of 150 boats registered with 3 months left to go.

Good to know that Tugger's girls are so on top of things BTW. From the 'butt:

"* From Lindsay Foster, T2P:

I have watched Premiere Racing in action at Key West Race Week, organizing

the venue, the race committee, the docking situations, the media, the

sponsors, etc. It is a huge job, and I agree that the classes need to step

up and organize within themselves. The organizers, and Peter Craig, made

every effort possible to leverage all opportunities to all classes to make

the regatta affordable and easy. Key West is a bit of a logistical

nightmare, and slightly expensive, but that is the trade off to sail in

such a great location. He can't move the island closer; he doesn't control

the airlines, the shipping and trailer companies. What he can do is provide

an excellent spot, work as hard as he can with the hotels and marinas not

to gouge prices, make sure the drinks are strong and the media coverage is

awesome, that the vendors provide everything a boat could want.

At some point the one design classes need to decide that they want to take

advantage of this event, that the owners love sailing against each other

and agree to participate in such a fun regatta. When I hear people

criticize the event organizers, it sounds more like an excuse for the class

not coming together and a justification for missing out on a good time. I

think everyone would do well to quit whining, complaining, arguing and

fighting, and just go enjoy themselves. This is supposed to be fun."

She's spot on. Having raced in KW since 1989 I hope I get the chance in 2012.

Having raced at KWRW many times, this year was one of the best. We had a fantastic time and look forward to going back. I heard no complaints from anyone there. Hope CRW has a great event also. Any event organizer putting a regatta together for me to just show up and race at has my full support.
