Commonwealth Games on in Delhi right now. Dengue is prevelant there. Didn't stop 1000's of athletes from around the world. And tourists.

Dude, the Commonwealth Games are fucked, and are projecting like half the spectators they originally expected. Don't know if it's the Dengue, but it's certainly cited as one of the reasons. Some of the athletes pulled out, but no countries - but the ticket sales are a big issue.

Risk of terrorist activity is the main reason some athletes pulled out. Pakistan is right next door! Delhi belly is the biggest issue (as always)

Cairns and the Aussie health org are spending a ton of money to try to get rid of Dengue, because tourism is pretty much all their income, and diseases fuck tourism up. Exotic sounding diseases even more so. Ross River fever is a bigger problem

But it won't stop me from going to Cairns any more than it would Key West, and I'll be closer to there anyway in January.

anyone think that the regatta website has anything more than a fraction of a % part of what makes a regatta memorable or worth it for a competitor?

"hey man, remember that awesome nationals 2 years ago? yeah! there was no breeze but the website, damn that was a good website!!"

yeah a great website is cool, but its hardly vital to a good regatta. for me, its about the quality of the racing. after that, in order of importance its: venue/facilities, quality of RC, food/beverage, tshirt, etc. wayyyyy down the line is the website. if i can register and see who else is registered, thats all i need.

id much rather have free beer for a night and no website than some sweet site and less amenities at the regatta...

well..., if florida has it, south carolina - including charleston (where i hear they also have a big regatta) is probably not far behind...

there have been well documented outbreaks of both dengue fever and malaria in the SC low country - just not recently..., at least as far as i know.

these outbreaks were mostly in colonial times, but there's no reason it couldn't happen again.

We'll be running a piece on Sunday night about fthe new testing that they're doing down there with biological agents implanted into mosquitoes, but it's not going to be ready in time for KWRW even if it works. To be clear, if things stay the same as they are today, the likelihood of one sailor in the 1500 or so at the event coming down with Dengue is at this point quite high. The likelihood of a lot of sailors coming down with it is pretty low. There's just too much marsh and standing water in the backyards of KW to be able to get rid of the mozzies, but there have only been 50 known cases in 18 months, so do the math.

The new Titan is listed with Bill Koch as the owner. I know it was for sale last summer and that it was taken out for a test drive during NYYC Race Week. Did he buy it from Tom Hill or just chartering?

Scotts buddy ********** has Yacht Club de Monaco listed as registered club. What no clubs in the US will take him?

2 Farr40 owners, Barking Mad and Groveiderchi are listed as sailing Farr30s. They both have both boats so does that mean that there will be no Farr40 class in KW? That would have to be the first time in at least 10 yrs maybe longer.
