Seems like Sinema is trying to open her pockets to both sides, no?

Given the red hot division of USAnian politics and voters, just how many "independant" candidates have been voted into Senate, Congress or the White House in, say, the past 20 or 30 years? (And no, Clint Eastwood doesn't count as he only ran for mayor.)

As it is, she is merely a Trojan Horse, running for a party of one - herself.

She should give up her seat and try to regain it running as an independant for the next term. Meanwhile, of course, that seat should be given to the Team D runner up, because the membership to that team was the main reason she got there.

How the hell did western politics turn into some sort of reality show, bordering comedy, but without being fucking funny?!

Because tragedy and comedy are flip sides of the same mask?

Does her change now fuck the Dems in terms of being in the majority in the Senate for like determining committees and such? I know that was the big issue with why Warnock winning his runoff in GA was so important. Doesn't this mean that the senate goes back to essentially a 50/50 split?

Only if she caucuses with the Rs. So far she's holding her Dem assignments, to be sure, there must be a LOT of conversations and $s moving around to get her on their side. She knows how to play the game.

No, it’s a 50-49 split. Dems get the Chairs. She gets the same Committee seats, no Chair. The only difference is that she won’t be running in the Democratic primary. This is a big nothingburger.

I wonder how long it takes before Bitch Mac bribes her into declaring R so he can fuck with the D's majority?

I wonder if her move isn't about trying to pull a Joe Manchin. With only a 50 seat majority, Manchin STILL holds the cards on many key votes. Me thinks kirsty is just trying to set herself up to be a power broker in a way that she failed at trying to follow Joe M and cut Joe out of the picture when he does his usual temper tantrum.

I don’t think even that would matter. Yesterday the Senate was 50-50. The Republicans aren’t 50-49 today with the Committee Chairs or we’d have heard about it. This is probably because of the arcane Senate rules.

I think she’s just nuts and doesn’t believe in anything but herself, solipsistic. We aren’t talking about some massive political talent like John McCain. We’re talking about someone who was in the right place at the right time like Carol Moseley Braun and thinks she’s the second coming of John McCain.

Sinema is Chair of two subcommittees
  • Subcommittee on Government Operations and Border Management
  • Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations, and Innovation
She'll retain those Chairs.

BTW, by way of comparison and although there are more Critters than Senators, my Critter Barbara Lee who has been in Congress since 1998, has never been a Chair of either a Committee or Subcommittee. Why? Because she's lazy and Nancy doesn't reward sloth.

There are 17 Senate committees, with 70 subcommittees. There are 23 House committees, with 104 subcommittees.
