Senators get fully vested retirement after one term. Add that to the Sweet package she's going to get from whichever donor gives her some bullshut job and the board positions she takes after she leaves the senate. Cha-ching
Not quite that simple.

Under both CSRS and FERS, Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at the age of 62 if they have completed at least five years of service. Members are eligible for a pension at age 50 if they have completed 20 years of service, or at any age after completing 25 years of service. The amount of the pension depends on length of service (as measured in months) and the average of the highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a Member’s retirement annuity may not exceed 80% of his or her final salary.

She will still get lots of private sector dark money for arm twisting her former team Congress Critters, especially when she shares that money with them.

David Schapira, a former Dem primary opponent/friend of Krysten Sinema, spills the tea:

Ok, I’ve had it. I remained silent about Kyrsten Sinema for 10 years, but it’s time to break the silence.

I always had a distaste for candidates who criticize their opponents after they lose an election. It comes off as sour grapes even if it’s well-founded. But…(1/10)

I need to scratch an “I told you so” itch. For those who weren’t around or don’t remember, after serving in the AZ legislature together for five years, Kyrsten moved into my district in 2012 to run for Congress in a Dem primary against @AndreiCherny and me.

Fair to say…(2/10)

Kyrsten and I were friends before she jumped into the AZ9 race. We spoke after her decision and committed we would not “go negative” against each other in the campaign. We held a press conference and released a joint statement saying so.

She had nothing to lose because…(3/10)

She was the front-runner in early polling w/ her firebrand reputation in progressive circles. Everyone figured I’d have to bring her down with some dirt to pull ahead. But I kept my promise and ran a clean campaign.

Things changed when my grassroots campaign pulled ahead…(4/10)

In the final months of the race, Kyrsten’s campaign spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on mail to Democratic primary voters with 2 attacks against me:

1. She said I supported John McCain for President over Obama.

2. She said I supported private-school vouchers.

So…(5/10)

Both claims were ridiculous, and she knew it. I interned for McCain when I was in college, but I was an OG @BarackObama supporter. I INTRODUCED Kyrsten to then-Senator Obama at an event in AZ and begged her to endorse him after her candidate dropped out.

On vouchers…(6/10)

I led a task force to investigate private-school vouchers and was the clearest voice against school privatization throughout our time together in the legislature. I later worked with @arizona_sos to stop voucher expansion and now work to oppose privatization outside of AZ. (7/10)

Kyrsten broke a promise to me and AZ voters to run a clean campaign. She lied about a friend to win an election. She later apologized and told me she had to do it or she would have lost, as if that made it okay.

And that brings me to the moral of this story…(8/10)

Kyrsten is the worst kind of hypocrite. Believe it or not, her core beliefs align with the progressive values of @TheDemocrats, BUT there is nothing she won’t say or do to increase her notoriety or importance. She will abandon values and friendships to climb to the top. (9/10)

As she leaves the political party and the voters who gave her political life, people will say she is crazy or stupid, but those people don’t know her. She is level-headed and brilliant, but she will stop at nothing and step on anyone to get what she wants.

(10/10)

P.S. Call it sour grapes, but it’s all true.

She doesn't appear "brilliant" to me at all. She appears to be a shrill attention whore.

And her "core progressive values" don't matter at all, if she's perfectly willing or eager to burn down any progressive in her way while cozying up to fascists. Principles that you abandon when inconvenient are not principles at all.

I don’t think even that would matter. Yesterday the Senate was 50-50. The Republicans aren’t 50-49 today with the Committee Chairs or we’d have heard about it. This is probably because of the arcane Senate rules.

I think she’s just nuts and doesn’t believe in anything but herself, solipsistic. We aren’t talking about some massive political talent like John McCain. We’re talking about someone who was in the right place at the right time like Carol Moseley Braun and thinks she’s the second coming of John McCain.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying it was going to work out for her. I was just musing that maybe that was what she thought was going to happen if she went all "mavericky".

I wonder if her move isn't about trying to pull a Joe Manchin. With only a 50 seat majority, Manchin STILL holds the cards on many key votes. Me thinks kirsty is just trying to set herself up to be a power broker in a way that she failed at trying to follow Joe M and cut Joe out of the picture when he does his usual temper tantrum.
I imagine Sen. Manchin is going to find a resolve to make nice with the Dems if he wants to hold onto his seat.

West Virginia Republicans hit the ground running to topple Joe Manchin in 2024

Joe Manchin is among the last of a dying breed — a Democratic senator representing a deep red state. He’s managed to hang on time and time again in West Virginia by bucking his party on key votes and building a reputation as a centrist.

But Republicans are already betting that in this era of extreme partisanship, and with West Virginia trending further and further to the right, voters will want someone who’s more aligned with the state’s trajectory. Candidates are already eyeing a chance to topple him, setting up the Senate contest there as one of the premiere races of the 2024 cycle.

How is making nice with the democRATs going to help him hang onto his seat?? I would say that would have exactly the opposite effect and give the GOP trying to oust him even more ammo to dump him. In fact, I see him going exactly the opposite direction - being even a bigger obstacle to biden to prove his bona fides. I wouldn't even put it past him to switch teams outright.

If Joe Manchin hangs onto his seat in West Virginia where he was Governor for 6 years and a United States Senator since 2010, it'll probably be for West Virginia reasons and not for national reasons.

BTW, Manchin has already ruled switching teams out and has already said he’ll run in 2024.

He’s too centrist. Will he go hard MAGA? That’s what they want. I don’t see him doing that.
