Lots of great information here about how to check if you have class legal sails. How do you tell which brand of sail you've got? My Laser & Radial sails just have made in China on them & the red Laser patch & serial number.
The Hydes's tend to run about $50 more US. I always specify when I order. How do you tell which brand of sail you've got? My Laser & Radial sails just have made in China on them & the red Laser patch & serial number.
Hyde, Pryde and North ILKA 7 Mark 2 sails are all the same price at Wet Coats SailingThe Hydes's tend to run about $50 more US. I always specify when I order.
North make them in Sri Lanka, and I understand Hyde are made in the Philippines and Pryde are made in HK. Where and when did you buy them? If you bought them from LP it’s anybody’s guess where they had them made. China would be a good bet.How do you tell which brand of sail you've got? I have always just ordered Laser sails from stores like https://www.purplemarine.com/ or https://www.sailboats.co.uk/ so never thought to ask which manufacturer they were, just that they were official sails. No matter who you bought them from the price was within a few pounds, unless they had a sale on.The Hydes's tend to run about $50 more US. I always specify when I order.
The Radial sail I bought at Christmas was from a seller on Ebay at a "make me an offer" very knocked down price. He had five to sell, I gather they were old stock as it has the Laser logo not ILCA. I got a bargain & from the few races i've done with it, it works just fine.North make them in Sri Lanka, and I understand Hyde are made in the Philippines and Pryde are made in HK. No sign of a button or patch though...this is the dilemma we're facing today between class legal sails, practice sails, and now laser sails that are not ILCA legal which I'm guessing this one is since it says Laser with a trademark.Looks like there are lots of Laser sails available on ebay at knocked down prices.

Re the Laser side of the business, looking from the outside, they seem to have shown a text book way of how to NOT to run a business.Somewhat off topic, but the LaserPerformance website seems moribund
Very few parts and a lot of 'contact sales team'
For a practice sail, it’s hard to beat Intensity.Bought a Hyde. Thanks all for your input.
I'm sure this has been covered before but cannot face wading through all the Laser / ILCA pages. Should I also buy a decent second hand new cut 7 to practice with/get used to, given I currently have a tired 3.8 crosscut?
