It is not that hard.

WOXI holds the Sydney to Hobart RACE record

And Sean Langman with Team Australia hold the Passage Record from Sydney to Hobart.

Pickeforkers can't help themselves, they pitchpole from race course to race course breaking mono race records during weather of their choosing....no doubt to ensure conditions are not too bad otherwise they have to break out their under hull hatches and underwater viewing bubbles. It is not as though there is a shortage of multi events...or aren't they capable of learning French? The bastards are clearly chasing world domination. For gods sake the Donald Crowhurst Admiration Society are trying to get the WSSRC to recognise his virtual round the world as a record!! Enough is enough!!

It is their toy, it's up to them how they want to play with it!

I say good luck to them. I hope they have a blast and post a fast time.

No I do not have a problem with them sailing to Hawaii and having the fastest passage in the record books.

Yes, I have a problem with all the fringe boats sailing on or around the "Transpac".

These boats are all really cool and great advancements. Records are fun for the multimillionaires and companies that spend the money but its not sailboat racing.

None of the boats with the soft records or unofficial records or fastest passage records should be mentioned with the word TRANSPAC.

The Transpac yacht race is a sailboat race that starts at point fermin at 1pm on the day the race committee designates for your class. Boats with moving ballast, power winches and other mechanical aids are NOT eligible to race against The cal 40's and hobie 33's that are eligible for the race.

If the fringe boats want to break records then do it without pulling down every race in the world. Start whenever you want. Go anywhere you want. Just don't demand to be let into "races" to break records of old Volkswagen's with your new Ferrari.

Win, Lose or drop out these guys are demanding all the press of the transpac. The guys that win Class 5 will get nothing but a pickle dish and be forgotten. They have too work pretty hard to win any class and if they get squat because some 100 foot boat dropped out with a fake "mechanical" because the record could not be set, they wont come back next year.

Every race team in Southern California on every Cal 40 and SC50 and J120 should WANT to race the transpac for the adventure. If they have to spend 20K to go and have no chance of glory because there will always be a 140 footer kicking the crap out of them The Race Will Die.

The Transpac Race should have 70 anything's racing I don't care if they are J44's or SC50's but it should be limited to sailboats without mechanical aids. Multihulls are great too just start them a week after the monohulls in the multihull transpac.

News from Lending Club 2 on Thursday morning.

Good Morning!

Since our start at 15:44 yesterday afternoon, we have managed to cover 300 miles. it's now 7;15 am, so some quick math shows that we are .1kt faster than Geronimo's record pace!!

This is awesome news, since we've have had extremely variable wind, shifting through 30 degrees at the drop of a hat, and ranging from 9-24 knots. The periods from 9-11 knots have been no fun, that's for sure.

As we manage to get down the route, the breeze is steadying out, which will bring the average up.

We think we might hold the record for clearing Catalina; we took 1hr 24 minutes with one tack under the island and another to Stbd as we cleared.

We are all very happy onboard. Just waiting for the clouds to go
away and the wind to go aft for our 'real' Transpac experience!

Looking forward to our Gladstones Lobster Mac and Cheese for lunch today, it s a real treat especially compared to the rest of the freeze dried meals we've got to look forward to!

Talk about rose colored glasses.

The TransPac has always had new top level boats sailing in it and the guy in the Cal 40 was never going to get any glory for his class win. If you're out there racing for "glory" you're sure as shit doing it for the wrong reason.

Any race "will die" if the people managing it want to believe that sailboat development stopped in 1987.

A) This race has been about the big boats for awhile now and is not showing any signs dying.

B ) All those boats you mentioned, they do Pacific Cup "for the adventure". Actually there are 9 SC 50/52's doing Transpac, so you lost me on that one. In fact, has there ever been a larger SC50/52 division to Hawaii?

Seems to me the participants of both races are quite happy, that is why they keep coming back. Not seeing the problem.

I raced my J/120 to Hawaii last year in Pacific Cup. It was a blast. I will never do Transpac. Transpac is not for me nor my boat. It is for other people and other boats and that is just fine. I'll be back to Pacific Cup on a smaller boat though.

Participation at both Hawaii races has been holding steady. I don't think anyone wants them to grow significantly. All of the logistics on both ends would become a nightmare if participation increased significantly. Pac Cup has a 70 boat limit for that reason. Is there really a problem here that needs fixing?

Not an expert on TransPac Trans-Pacific records setting, but shouldn't they be heading a lot farther south? Any weather gods here?

Looks like they'll end up at about 540 nm for the first 24 hours. That works out to about 4 days 6 hours - the current record is 4 days 19 hours. This will be fun to watch. I hope they don't hit any debris.

That works out to 22.5 knot average. They are currently doing 33, so things are looking good at the moment.

When this boat was named Groupama 3 it logged 794 nm in 24 hours. It is one of the three or four fastest sailboats on the planet. If the wind holds, and they don't hit anything, they could demolish the record. I hope they do!

No all is well. Sailing and sailboat racing is increasing every year and the industry is strong.

These boats are really cool.

They are the best boats in the world and fun to have around.

Do they belong in the Transpac racing against a Hobie 33 and a J44?

Records are a fun part of the sport.

Why don’t we start "The Anarchy Kali-Haw" record race.

You can start anywhere within 200 yards of the coast of California and finish within 100 yrds of the Diamond head buoy when it bears 60deg.

You must start between 12:01 am July 1 and 11:59 pm July 31. If you return within 96 hours of your attempt you can make up to 2 more attempts that month.

THAT race will be the official "record " to Hawaii.

As soon as a 120 footer holds that record at 3 days 23 hours someone will build a 140 footer and say starting at San Nicholas Island is still within 200 yrds of the California coast and want to finish at the Kaneohe Bay sand bar. Or if the weather looks bad on July 29th they will want to start August 3rd and still have it in the record books as the “soft”” unofficial” not recognized record. Or the August record, Or we make a record for every month.

Oh, I hold the record for a catamaran between 67 and 76 feet that raced in July, and started between 2pm and 6pm on a weekday during a full moon.

No matter what parameters they want them to change to accommodate their boat.
