It would be great if the two Chris White owners that post here regularly could also post some videos of cruising at speed though. I guess that will mean boatspeeds in the teens rather than 20+, but that's acceptable shorthanded with the autopilot steering.

There is one video of the Atlantic 72 Skylark at 20-25kn, but again, from a cruising perspective, it appears that's probably pushing too hard when shorthanded:
Alan pushes Skylark hard and he is normally just with his wife. He regularly does 330+ mile days when the winds and the seas are right. That's really pushing because you have to get into the high teens regularly, and at night. 20-25 in daylight conditions are fine if you're running in swells and the wind is slightly aft of the beam. That's him under AP. He sails more in a year than most do in 5.

We've seen 30+knots but that was in a squall and we were running hard off the wind in 40-50 knots and large following seas. No way I'm comfortable doing that all the time without someone with trigger fingers on the helm, main and jib. Less than 20 knots of boat speed and AWS similar to TWS then up to 20 knots is fine for us under AP.

Both our boats were built at ACC and their quality is undeniable.

Sorry, we don't shoot much video on the boat, eats data like crazy. We're going to put on a Starlink dish in March, maybe after that?

That would be really great, thanks. Your photos are good too and much appreciated (y) :)

I really like to see boat speed, wind speed (true/apparent), angle, sea state, and sail combination, as it provides a much better understanding than just 'we were going xx knots.

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to you.

The heavy air performance can be thrilling, but it's the light air performance that really stands out. Being able to sail like this is simply a different universe from 99% of cruising cats, not to mention the monos......

Definitely! (y)

And, since it's also an option during the decision making process for a buyer of a big boat I even make the comparison to a long distance live aboard power boat (which in most cases tends to be a trawler style of some description - with an exception being the long and narrow Dashew FPB type or some recent copies) - because even the power boats struggle to cruise at 10kn or more, or maybe can do it for coastal sprinting but not for ocean crossings.

The big performance sailing cats really have a lot going for them :)

@jmh2002 As Dave notes, it's the light air performance that is what truly helps as well as the pointing ability. We'll point as well as any cruising mono, carrying more speed. Opens up huge options that the condomarans don't have. They're for most cases off the wind boats.

Normally offshore speed is a factor of sea and wind state. Any time you're less than 50 TWA then you're beating hard and boat speed on our 57 was around 7-8 knots and on the 72, about 8-11.
Between 50-130TWA you're doing between 8-11 knots on the 57 and about 10-14 on the 72. >130 TWA you have to get the kite up do keep the averages up.

These are averages but they have worked well for us. We did between 200-240NM on the 57 and on the 72 we are between 230 and 300nm. Anyone going any faster is also gonna lie to you about the size of the fish they catch.;)

Their former captain now owns a very nice Outremer. Chatted with him a few days ago.
I'm going with a GB68 for $100 Alex
I wondered if they were on the list for one of the early 80s given the timing of selling Elvis, but a 68 after the kinks were worked out on the first 4-5 boats would make sense too.

They noted how well the boats outta ACC are built.
Problem is, it's not 3-4 boats a year, it's a boat every two years. But that boat is money.
