Here is the plea agreement for this case. Interestingly, he pled to a possible 20-year sentence, but the contract states his offense-level punishment is rated at 27, which will earn him a penalty of 51 to 63 months in prison (page 4).

If by "keep the ball in play" you mean ignoring questions asked of him, only to ask his own (often irrelevant) questions - I agree.
