Good friend of mine lives in Halifax. Has stripped his boat of sails, Bimini, etc. extra fenders out, doubled up on dock lines. Says he hopes this one isn’t as bad as 2001 when power was out for 3 days

The newscasts this morning were predicting it as “the worst storm in history ever to hit Eastern Canada.”

Their words, not mine. I notice that the Globe and Mail has already downgraded to “winds up to 100km.”

Will see what actually happens. Hope they’re wrong and this thing loses energy like a fat man in a 5k…

Not to belittle the event, and certainly hoping for the best.

But...

Isn't every storm historic, dramatic, catastrophic and otherwise apocalyptic? You must tune in for the latest advertisements! Big update coming soon.

I'll watch, but ugg... the reporting.

- lowest central pressure of any storm to hit Canada, ever

- very warm water between Bermuda and Canada (that's a sea surface anomaly map)

- interaction with that cold front coming off the coast

- big high somewhere south of Iceland pushing the gradients steeper

Yeah it will be one to remember I think. As usual it will be storm surge/rainfall that does most of the damage, not the winds.

So it's going to get sucked in to the gulf of St. Lawrence..... And then.... What? Out the strait of Belle Isle? Or will it just tromp across the east coast of Quebec and Labrador?

One would think on that track Maine's Southeasterly facing beaches should be getting hammered right about now. Dogwalk on Head Beach this aft yielded only 1-2' beach break, strong westerlies holding the small lefts open but really nothing worth suiting up for.

Granted we have a very small swell window between Cape Cod and Yarmouth, NS so timing is everything.

I just want ONE epic swell to hit when I have a camera in my hands. Just one! Is that too much to ask after 22 years in Maine?
