The boom can’t be below deck based on the rules, right? It specifies a zone on the mast the boom can attach and that is above the deck. I think they simply have stiff battens and control the shape through those.
I agree.  Talk keeps popping up about an "underdeck boom" but either it's imprecise language or (I think) wrong

Although now I'm thinking about a radiused track with twin cars with vertical cylinders for leech and push/pull cylinders for canting the mainsheet rams fore and aft for independent leech control. Knew I should have gone to work for AM!

From a cursory search of 'mast lower zone' I see nothing that precludes the under-deck boom. Notably there is no 'bottom' to the mast lower zone in the diagram.  Screenshot_20201024-110429.png Screenshot_20201024-110353.png Screenshot_20201024-110305.png Screenshot_20201024-105947.png

^ There is some obvious 'thickening' to the otherwise super slick looking skins, just below the red stripe/window in the photos above. Is that battens or a boom?

- Did LR persist with the below deck set up or give up?

- What feature confirms this phantoms existence?

- Last time seen?

- Do any photos of 'it' exist?
There is no through deck connection to the mainsail foot almost like a Hobbie whatever the Handbags set up is they obviously like it and have as of date done a great job of concealment.

Things will now change with B2 coming under the intense and skill full efforts of the mighty Waitemata WETA.

Obviously it was an initial shakedown jaunt out on the water, but i found myself chuckling for the first part of the video when everyone out on the water was just zipping past them...lol

i swear I saw a kayak pass them! (no I made that up)  But you did have jet ski's and kite boards circling them as they just slowly plodded along.

On another note, the crew look like the stick quite high out of the trenches.

Interesting video

the main as it goes up bulges out at between each batten showing there is something holding them relative

Also when putting main up the seagulls are hanging around to do speed checks

At 8:34 seems like they returned to the “hidden boom” configuration. It’s different from the semi-rigid battens setup, there was a sort of “box” at the end of the sail that “compressed” the battens to control the camber. There isn’t anymore apparently

Yes, a slow, very slow, and cautious shakedown.  Didn't chance their luck  when presented with pretty fresh breeze at times,

It seems all three challengers are not shy about posting long sequences of their sail testing.  Work noting though that provides ample opportunity to avoid showing off stuff they don't want us to see!

Maybe. Might be a laser beam alarm (think parking sensor) to tell, Jimmy when he's too close, going for the hook. With his bow sprit sweeping these extreme reverse sheers, he can no longer rely on touch.

No doubt, INEOS will need multiple parking sensors, for more obvious reasons. ;-)
