I think journalists became very politicised. Gave up their independence and objectivity. The new generation of media owners also want to influence rather than report.  Anyway we best talk about the boats and I hear my team are back out on the water though have yet to confirm that. (Team Brexit).
Indeed. Despite my opinions on Ben I do hope they have found some speed - a lot actually.

In the pre Xmas races they didn't really look any better than the frogs in Bermuda which sucks for them and us.

Galdwell: "We have not yet had the chance of doing a before and after image comparison of the two AC75's but visually there appeared to be no obvious changes."

Well spotted!  Also, I'm not sure as I haven't checked past pics, but is the skeg longer - nearly to the rudder now? And is that a vent near it's trailing edge?

I think the Italians realised they are likely to be 2nd fastest challengers and have decided to act accordingly.

They brought out the chain saws in 2003 when they finally realized a knuckle bow was a must have feature.

It really uglied up their boat and alas to little effect, which is a shame cos they would have been far better custodians of the cup than Ernie.

Just a weird thought: what if they targeted B2 for ligh/medium breeze and B1 for stronger wind conditions?
I know, it’s strange. But MS keeps saying that B1 is ready and they could use it, and that it’s hard to target an AC75 for all around wind conditions. Also, I remember they sailed B1 in strong winds  in Cagliari.

I was surprised in the 360 video about two things:

The helms console looked more advanced than in the Christmas cup on B2

The grinders were way better shielded from the wind.

Would be amazing if they were pulling a huge fake on everyone.

Nah, just can't see it. If they did this, then they would be foregoing all the lessons around hull design they learnt between B1 and B2.

Wondering about the runners back in: have they given up on the experiment or do they keep them slack as a safety feature during training?

Well for any other team I would agree, but LR had minimal hull differences, within the realm of modification potential.

Edit: one could even use B2 to make site built tooling to make the change

But they've already done an emergency skeg-ectomy on boat 2 once at least and the sort is something that would be common to both low wind and high wind boats to provide the end plate.

So unless they've super glued a skeg onto B1 in the interceding period (which i guess is theoretically possible) it seems to me that B2 is a lock.

I might be misunderstanding you, but Luna Rossa B1 was the first boat with a skeg. They commented that they'd made the skeg on B2 deeper, not much by the looks of it, and added the thin 'blade' which could be replicated on B1.

The foredeck has a larger radius along the sheerline on B2 v B1. Can't think of many other external hull differences, although there are likely unnoticed ones.

It's all a stretch obviously, but the similarity bt B1 and B2 opens the door to a play which would be incredible to pull off, as far as cup deceptions in plain sight go.
