if they could have been on the smaller foils for  the Sunday race then they would have been.

not a fan of the rough water though and its an area INEOS conceded wasn't as favorable as flat water for them in the inside tack vid after racing

hull shape of LR touches smoother in rough water than the wider skeg of INEOS that is better suited to a flat water touch down.

One assumes these foils aren't what they measured with for this weekend, but are aimed at the Prada semis, final or even AC itself if they progress
According to Vittorio/Pietro in their video posted above (in Italian) LR has declared the new (smaller) foils for the next two races with INEOS. I guess they have their sources. And they commend this as the "brave" and "technically aggressive" decision needed at this time.

Ooh, interesting thanks. Makes sense from their pov to throw the dice, but still with a safety net I suppose.

But if it is 13kts on Sat then could be tricky (for them). Especially if they are as lacking in control as that video suggests

Iirc then when Ineos raced LR in medium breeze (like what the forecast is) then in both the first (abandoned) race and the second (completed) race, LR was faster upwind and INEOS faster downwind, by very close margins except that being fast upwind gained LR bigger time-gains. The big exception was on one of the downwinds where INEOS gained by 26 secs due to a split and a shift. This weekend could be tight.

Interesting. A video interview with Vasco Vascotto - he is a top tactician and, in the best (worst) Italian fashion, might have been expected to be somehow non-committal on the two helmsmen/no onboard tactician thorny issue.

Instead, he sounded sincerely happy about the current setup, he specifically said tactics are very simple, there’s no need of overthinking, the guys onboard are fully qualified, the key is concentrating on boat speed, his role is more motivational than telling Checco and Jimmy what they should do (maybe Zaal can provide a fuller version)

Here we go. Vasco Vascotto interview :

- Early wake up today for LR shore team: 4 am.
- The mast less tow out was due to strong winds, they wanted to test something but without any risks.

- They’re happy about boat performances: they are the fastest boat in light breeze, and they’re fast also in stronger winds. There is momentum in every sport competition. UK has a positive momentum, AM a negative one, but this situation can change in a second.
- Asked about AM situation, he’s sure that they’ll fix the boat. They will be very dangerous, They’re a top team and getting the boat back in the water will galvanize them.
- The double-helmsman configuration will be a great asset for LR. Races are not so difficult, they need to stay focused on keeping the boat fast, without overthinking. They got the 90% of the starts right, they made some mistake but they won’t do them again.

- He doesn’t say to people like JS, FB or Pietro Sibello how to do the tactics, they are perfectly capable of taking the right decisions during the race. Few times he says something like: oh, c’mon guys, we can do better than this.

- He wouldn’t like to be against LR under 14 knots of wind and in the prestart

If AM hadn't had their woopsie, LR would have been 2 and oh last weekend. They keep talking it up and playing down the issues, but the pre-event favs, have been a touch average in my mind.

Disagree. I'm with Zaal. LR are fast all round. They need a bit more top end and that is what the new foils are about, yes that will come at the expense of some bottom end. INEOS are going to need to have found speed this week to beat them is my impression.

So after sorting out the frackers with apparent success Magnus is now going after the handbags.

His expose of the lack of speed and mutiny in the INEOS camp before the ACWS worked wonders.

So what is Magnus up to now? He sees a melt down in the Italian gelato, offering the "body language" between the twin skippers as evidence. It is a pitbull power struggle with Jimmy winning control. Goody will no doubt step in as tactician (though Magnus does not go as far as sacking Checci) and all will be well.

Can't wait for the carnage.

Oh hell. Given Magnus' record to date, that means the Italians will be unbeatable next race
