I just did. And this just confirms what I said. It lists his achievements, which like I said, the list is long, but he's only ever led a team, as syndicate head once. And it was a disaster.
So if they appoint a new All Blacks coach and then immediately shoot three quarters of the players in the head, would that be a fair measure of the coach's performance.

I for one don't think Schnack was capable of leading any team to victory, but the reality is he was never given an fair shot at it so I think you're being pretty fucking unreasonable.

It is true, GD can be combative. But I admire his convictions and how he stands his ground.

Results are what count. There are plenty of ordinary people in the world, but few extraordinary ones.

Yes. Sir Peter was pretty special.
Some years ago I sat beside GD on a flight. We Irish are proud and passionate at the best of times but GD has both in spades. I was greatly impressed by his determination. He was good company and quite engaging. Afterwards, I read from afar and watched with great interest the progress of TNZ. In truth, I admired these warriors from a small country taking on the Americans. And so I went to SFO for the AC Final and saw firsthand how events unfolded. And rest assured, it was cruel beyond belief. I couldn’t make it to Bermuda but I’m famous in these parts for having the pub switch on the sailing and turn off the soccer. Skeptics at first, after the pitch pole, the sailing became prime time in the pub and a host of new fans watched this alien sport with some enthusiasm..

In the evenings, I had nothing to do so I would go for a walk around the village. I became quite friendly with some of the shore team. I told one of them about meeting GD some years earlier and I was wheeled in to meet him again. Not only did he remember me, but he was very gracious with his time, introduced me to all and sundry and invited to return any time I wanted. What I witnessed were a group of warriors with a calm yet steely determination I have admired to this day.

I couldn’t speak more highly of GD.  I know nothing about the politics, the business complexities or the battling behind the scenes but I can say, without hesitation, he‘s done an incredible job for NZ and bleeds Kiwi black from head to toe.

He’s the man you want in your corner.

What? How did we go from winning campaigns to shooting people in the head? You could also argue Dalton wasn’t given a fair shot at it the first time either, yet he made the Cup match first time out and was the first team in 12 years to win a race against a Defender, and went on to win a second and come within one second of winning a 3rd. Moral of the story, Dalton had/ has the ability to make the best of a bad situation.

It was Toms campaign in 2003 when the rest of the team left. And it was that campaign that was a disaster for Team NZ. Not only did they get whitewashed 5 nil, but they failed to finish 2 races, their testing campaign was seriously compromised by their first boat being structurally weak, and having structural issues.
Well, still better than loosing 9-8 after being 8-1 like Dalts right ? I admire so much Tom Schnakenberg, I consider him a genius.

Dalton is a superior leader IMO and I stated as much.

But using 2003 as a guage of Schnacks leadership qualities is sophistry.

Question to our kiwi friends.
I know each experience is different, but which defeat hurt the most? 0-5 or 8-9 (i.e. 8-11)?
San Francisco for me undoubtedly cos I already had the match done and dusted in my mind.

Also, watching so many other kiwis kick fuck out of Dalts, Barker and the rest of Etnz after a magnificent effort made thing extra crappy.

I know Glenn personally he coached a few of us in cats in western Victoria. He’s a bloody ripper bloke , humble and down to earth . There was a hell of a lot of emotion as Glenny held up that cup
I would say I know him, but he used our loft during the lead up to the Sydney Games when he was coaching the German Tornado team (from memory). Nice guy, very open to engaging in discussing ideas and adopting them.Very analytical and good at putting ideas into practice.

And answering to Sailbyte´s request, which victory was sweetest?

SFO 8-9 (Obnoxious Rich Arsehole Called Larry Ellison).... the sweetest was Bermuda, Kicking Cunty Coutts right fair square in his nuts & screwing up his plan for world domination!

For me the sweetest was Bermuda, and the bitter Auckland 2021 against Luna Rossa when before the race they made us believe we were going 80 kts upwind.

:D :D Of course I'm a Kiwi

For me too! Although I have had no skin in the game at least since Torben Grael (the best Brazilian yachtsman ever) crewed for LR in its first challenge, I have rooted for NZ ever since.
