Good point. Bruni almost 50, BA almost 46, Goodison 45, JS 43, TS 38, NO 36, PB 32 ... am I missing anyone? None of them spring chickens yet Burling still the youngest.

Those older guys will seriously start to struggle. I'm almost 50 and my reaction times are waaaay slower than my late 20's when I think (from a sailing perspective) I was at my sharpest and strongest. Although certainly not my wisest!
Hard to say who is going to get the helm for when it matters but LR have been using Ruggi Tita (30) a fair bit on helm and possibly other younger sailors.

very good point, it was clearly evident that Dean Barker battled to get round the boat during tacks in AC36, but that fitness/agility requirement is taken away by dual helm set-up.

It should boil down to who is the best at the job, they don't throw teenagers into an F1 driving seat because reaction time alone is not a replacement for experience. The downside is that it is almost impossible for a talented youngster to get the position to then gain this experience.

We are starting to see much younger helms in SailGP, where lightning reactions are also needed to just avoid the rest of the fleet.

I suppose if you're good enough to end up at the sharp end of a competitive moth worlds fleet, then you're probably not too old to be steering one of these machines. Here is the top10 from Garda worlds in sep '21, Bruni seems to still have it despite his age

Ruggi is a great helmsman. I think that he wanted an Olympic gold since he was fourteen, no matter the class .I sailed with him when he was 16 and I felt he would have succeded, as he did.(Big up Ruggi!).Maybe AC with the Ac75 is a different game, more of an engineering competition ,but if the helmsmen are crucial and he’s committed, LR would be my favorite at least amongst the challengers.

Ridiculous. Clearly the Ac40 is faster, even when allowing for wind speed differences, sea state, speed of seagulls; different scaling etc. Any calibrated eye can see that

Even if your statement was true… the 40 may be faster because it is scaled differently. Not 1 for 1 machines. LR could be a more accurate platform to the 75 for testing.
