From flat calm to full-on. It seems to be the story of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli’s winter training camp in Cagliari and today was no different. Dawn broke and the Sella del Diavolo looked inviting, calm, serene even with spring sunshine breaking over the horizon but it was fool’s gold and pretty soon it was snorting at 14-17 knots with an angry sea that looked set to stay all afternoon.

On the flat starboard foil things looked harder, pitch was hit and miss, but a case could equally be made that on port tack they were punching into the waves. Vittorio Bissaro, one of the key Flight Controllers for the programme gave a superb insight saying: “Well let's say that waves give us some feedback in terms of how the two foils behave, so probably I would say that we have a better feeling with one foil compared to the other in waves but I will not say which one of course.” Yes of course Vito, but the recon video offers a few hints.

The path to glory at the America’s Cup is a hard one. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, the beaten finalists from 2021 know this all too well but there’s a pragmatism in their approach which was superbly exemplified by Gilberto Nobili, the team’s highly experienced and no-nonsense Operations Manager, in interview afterwards. Asked what it will take to win the Cup, he gave a comprehensive and detailed overview saying: “You know that the Defender is always few points ahead of you because they know the stuff better than you and is only racing really a few days so they can narrow down the selection of the boat, how to develop stuff. You have a little bit more practice, and as we saw last time we got to the Cup, to the final, very prepared on the field, on the racing course, they were little bit faster for sure so this time we need to close the gap, keep doing what we were doing and see if there is something there that we didn't experiment with so we need to learn a little bit more and see what the other people come out with, because now we see the other teams are starting to put new wings and new stuff in the water. It’s going to be, in the next 2-3 months, I think it's going to be very interesting to see what all the other teams has done and how we can approach the future.”

We have been treated to some spectacular sailing sessions by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli over the past few months since the launch of the LEQ12 prototype that they have taken to such a high level of professionalism to be almost peerless in sailing style. The settled senior helms of Francesco Bruni and Jimmy Spithill have been complemented with top-class helms such as Ruggero Tita and Marco Gradoni that finding a difference between them, from the outside looking in, has proven hard. Flight has been solid through the axis of Andrea Tesei, Vittorio Bissaro and Umberto Molineris and they have rarely had an off day in months.

After sailing, Andrea Tesei the ace Flight Controller and even more ace 49er sailor who came to Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli via the New Generation project in 2021 gave a refreshing insight and talking about the near capsize he said: “To be honest we still need to debrief what we did but for sure we are turning the marks trying to push the boat and push the manoeuvres everyday more, so it was a bit of a tight round up and we just sank on the foil and stuffed the bow underwater and it was pretty spectacular but nothing, just some basic operational mistakes and a boat handling mistake once we start pushing around the marks. It’s just stuff that happens.”

Ah, its interesting how you change your words over and over and over again lol So its now gone from "not designed for fast sailing" to "not designed for racing against another boat" to "Not designed to be as fast as possible"
It's both of the last 2 and always has been. So no change. Your comprehension has consistently absent

Then THATS what you should've said (but didn't) the first time.
What you said was "The LEQ12's are not designed for fast sailing" thats a quote.
Now there is no other meaning to that statement. There's no interpretation. There's no other way to explain that statement. To attempt to do so turns the statement itself into an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT and separate statement from the one you originally made. As has been proven by my previous post above.

We got there in the end. The LEQ12's ARE IN FACT designed for fast sailing. The fact (or speculation on your part) that INEOS have chosen not to design their LEQ12 for fast sailing doesn't change the fact that the LEQ12's themselves are in fact designed for fast sailing, if for other no other reason (including racing) to gather data when sailing fast.

You're welcome.

Ah the old "since I have no other way of responding, i'll just personally attack you" defence.

Donald, sorry, Mr Trump, sorry, Mr President, sorry, Mr Former President, is that you? lol
Ok if you would prefer the long version. You are a very weird puppy because you have been unable to understand this from the start. This combined with your other rather large gaps in understanding (anything "technical" about sailing and your narrow-minded bigotry (in the original wider meaning) makes you very weird.

And I am still waiting for your wise words on strategy upon which you claim to be an expert but I have seen you post so little.

I (unlike yourself it seems) am always willing to learn so I am keen to hear your wisdom on this subject, whether that means AC development strategy or race strategy

I don't get involved in a discussion regarding particle physics either because I know jack about it.

You on the other say dumb shit like... And I quote "NZ also tested their foils in secret and then changed the rules to make sure noone else could"
Thats just dumb shit and just proves how bitter you are and how much of a typical whinging fucking pom you are.

My words.. The definition of stupidity (apart from enigmatically2) is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. Unfortunately thats what INEOS appears to be doing.

NZ did secret testing of foils (including towed testing) in previous cycles, built up their Sims, and now have changed the rules to forbid secret testing or towed testing.
This is all well documented, denying it is the dumb shit.

P.s.We know you don't understand 'technical" stuff, i.e. sailing, boat design, but you did say you were an expert in strategy. Still waiting for your insight there.

"Secret testing tow testing" lol and the 2020 election was stolen too right?
There is no secret. The secret is Team NZ ran two winning campaigns. There was nothing "secret" about it.
Just because the other teams took their eye off the ball in favour of some new sailing league they wanted to create, instead of winning the cup first, doesn't mean what the Kiwi's did was any big secret. They ran their campaign the same way every other winning campaign won. By being better.

Fucking nut job.
