That prompted me to drag out my "folk art". These are right in front of me as I speak.

The top piece was done by my wife's grandfather in a small town in Saskatchewan and we picked it up when her father moved to a condo.

The bottom piece I found in the 70's in a pile of trash at an abandoned farmhouse outside a small town in Saskatchewan.

Life gets strangely connected sometimes.

Couldn't help but notice the lower pic's flag on the left is the Icelandic flag.  Wife's grandparents immigrated from Iceland to Elfros in SE Saskatchewan.  It was/is? a significant Icelandic community.  Wife's mom grew up learning Icelandic there and she still has cousins in the area (and Iceland).  I wonder how close that abandoned farm house was to her mom's home town.

Other flag is Norwegian.  Probably some mixed marriage happening.

Would be cool to know the history of the picture and of its former owners.

I do like it.

I'm not sure 'mega stereo' is even a thing now, you might have to explain to some of our younger SA'ers. One of my nephews recently (and rather condescendingly) asked me why I even wanted a guitar amp, when obviously what should be done is to get an electric guitar that Bluetooths to everyones' ear buds.

It's sort of like having a boom car, except that it stays in your living room.

A marantz woude of beene a goode buye.
By a strange coincidence, that's what it was.

Marantz 1150 amp, 120 tuner, Technics turntable and Altec Lansing 14 floor speakers.

I still have it. Apparently the Marantz gear is now collectible but I somehow think an original Neiman would have appreciated more.

No-one cares about sound quality anymore. That compressed shit they get from the web is little better than an AM car radio with a single dash speaker.

It's all relative.

FM Broadcast, 15 kHz audio bandwidth (FM, signal about 200 kHz RF)

AM Broadcast, 5 kHz audio bandwidth (DSB + Carrier so 10 kHz RF).

AM communications quality (Ham) 3 kHz audio bandwidth, (DSB _ Carrier so 6 kHz RF)

SSB  communications quality 2.7 kHz audio, 2.7 kHz RF

While AM broadcast sounds warm and low-fi compared to FM, Ham AM sounds lush and full compared to SSB....(except during fades or some ionospheric propagation when it fuzzes or distorts worse than the narrower carrier-free SSB).

AM broadcast sounds very very clear and full compared to AM ham. You don't need phonetics as much for the letters S F T D M N. But only FM 15 kHz really eliminates phonetics for S F because parts of those letters formants are above 6 kHz.
