This shows a pale forehead, which probably would have been common, given knit caps and no sunscreen.

When Dyneema started to be used for standing rigging someone said that wire rigging might turn out to have been a relatively short term aberration.

That’s how you rig powerful trimarans, so yeah, you might be right. Plus, it saves you from worrying about broken swages.
