Nice painting. Details?

I bought the one below a couple of years ago. The artist is a friend, 36" x 48" oil, a scene a few hundred yards from my  Mom's house.

Charles Brooking, 1700s, don't know much about him but apparently he painted a lot because there's ~80 of his on the wwweb. I found his stuff looking at JWM Turner.

I like your friends style too. Th light and contrasts create a very nice mood.

As it is painted (fingered?) on glass, hopefully it can be saved and placed in the Musée national de la Marine Paris.

Seurat, 1890, Channel At Gravelines...

... inside joke, Seurat was a "Pointillist" making his paintings of many many many dots. He was the best of this school, IMHO. Presaged modern technology and our pixels.

another cool maritime art museum that we have visited is in Winona, MN.

The Manitowoc museum is awesome. We stopped in there, cruising, about 12 years ago. They had a steam engine from a paddlewheeler set up to run on compressed air, very impressive. And a submarine.

BTW I just noticed that I did not actually post the Brookings painting, a couple days ago



"Ready To Tack On The Layline" is not the title but it should be. Or maybe the ship in the distance is actually the Race Committee and they're about to finish.
