Nice Shaka!

I raise you one Lady of the Bay. She is about 10 miles up the back bay from my dock.

this reminded me of a sculpture near DC called The Awakening ...

it's now located at National Harbor just south of the Wilson Bridge. It was originally placed on Haines Point near the Southwest Waterfront and close to the Lincoln Memorial. In 85 or 86 one of the hurricanes that made landfall in the Gulf dumped a fuckton of rain along the Blue Ridge mountains, which in turn flooded the DC almost to the same extent that Isabel did in 2003. I went out on my power boat to take a spin on the river and look at damage. Cruising by the sculpture it looked like it was doing the backstroke.
apparently it suffers the same fate a little more frequently in it's current location as well....

Paul Signac, his slow ascent into pointillism.

Along with Serat, he defined this impressionist technique. He had a soft spot for painting sailboats, harbors and sunsets -- ideally, and when happiest, all three.

I've always thought that some of the best commerical art of the 20th century was cover art on plastic model boxes. One of the reasons for that is Roy Cross.

ROY CROSS

Roy Cross (b. 1924) was born in the Docklands of London, England. He first became known as an aviation artist and author, and became a member of the Society of Aviation Artists in 1952. He was largely self-taught. During the Second World War, he was a technical illustrator for aviation training manuals, and after the War, went on to become a leading journalist and illustrator of aircraft subjects. His paintings were reproduced on the covers of millions of the popular UK brand Airfix scale model kits, which featured all types of historic aircraft. In the 1960s, his interests widened to the subject of historic sailing and shipping scenes of the London docks that he remembered from his childhood. His commitment to marine paintings grew as his interest in aircraft waned. Cross held his first solo exhibition of marine paintings in 1973, he has since devoted his career to painting marine subjects.

You might know Cross better from this genre.

Reminds me a little of the more morose sculpture in battery park.

My wife found this by a local artist in a downtown gallery and bought it on a whim. It hangs in our living room. It's part of his "Swiftsure" series.

Hi Ishmael - my service club has been gifted a Wilkinson in this series as attached and I am trying to find out more information. It is stickered Windfall Gallery, Palmerton North, so I am wondering if it is by Brendon Wilkinson. I am endeavouring to value to sell in a charity auction. Love the vibrant colours! Appreciate any help you or others can give.

I picked this up recently, it's by a fairly renowned local watercolour artist. I love his landscapes, and he also paints a lot of scenes with moored boats, but I find he never gets the rigging right on sail boats, which the pedant in me finds it ruins otherwise beautiful works.... its rare for me to ever avoid depictions of boats!
